Lolli got a different form of poopy butt. It was lighter in color and smelled kind of like baby poop. And once again, a lot of it looked like fully form poops that got squished into her fur but these were definitely soft. I have been feeding her the same lettuce along with parsley and cilantro so I’m thinking the combo of all this is too much for her.
My question is about her genital area. She’s a little red around her anus so I applied some neosporin. But I noticed the area was also very firm. i have never noticed this before so I don’t know if I didn’t pay attention in the past or if something else is going on. I’m leaning towards something else going on cause that’s my luck. Plus I have applied neosporin in the past and would think I would notice the firmness of her butt area. But I’m slow sometimes. lol
Does anyone have any idea on the firmness of a female rabbit’s genital area? Am I worrying about nothing yet again? Could this be a sign that her glands need cleaned? Isn’t there a smell with that though? Like they’ll start smelling bad? She never smells until she has poopy butt.
I know I need to take her to the vet. But if I’m being dumb about her area, then it would be a wasted trip. And I have very limited funds. She will not be getting pellets so she’ll be forced to eat hay so her stomach can calm down.
How old is Lolli?
She is 2 years old.
I was thinking her poopy butt could be a mobility problem if she was older but she’s not. Is she completely off pellets all the time?
She gets a 1/4 cup of pellets a day. But starting today, she’s not getting any so she eats more hay. The brand is Kaytee Complete Timothy pellets. Just pellets, no extras. I bought Oxbow once last year and the little poopheads wouldn’t eat it. She gets a couple of handfuls of organic baby spring mix. I just started limiting her treats to 1 dried fruit piece from 3. lol
And she was 7lbs. I don’t know exactly what she weighs but she has lost weight. Not much but her dewlap is smaller.
I guess the common demonator in all this is treats and pellets. lol I can’t just not give treats so she’ll be getting only 1 at a time. And I have to keep reminding myself that she’s fine with just eating hay. lol
Why don’t you give a piece of lettuce or something as a treat instead of what you usually give her. I don’t think she will mind and if the raisins or whatever the treat is you give her is giving her poopy butt, then hopefully you can see changes quickly?

Cause I’m too lazy to get up and get a piece of lettuce. LOL
Well.. it’s either get up, or not be able to tell if its the treats causing the poopy butt.
You have to resist that cute face and dewlap… just try healthy treats for a bit and see if it helps!
You could get her fecals tested. Check with your vet whether you can just drop a sample in. That might keep cost down a bit.
Ditto the fecal test. Also they can lose fluids quickly with poopy butt so I don’t think you should wait too long especially if this is an every day thing and not an intermittent sometimes squishy cecals are left behind. I definitely do not think this is anal glands-they do not smell like baby poo (they smell like skunk) and they’d never discharge poopy stuff either way. {{Lolli}}
Can you keep some of her fav greens in a tuppeware bowl or something nearby so you don’t have to get up? lol.
Hey it isn’t you not loving them by not giving them a treat. It is you loving them more. Just look at it that way
Also I don’t think that came out too good cuz I know you care about her. A lot. I just didn’t know how else to put it that might make a difference in your thoughts on giving treats.
Changing my thougths around like that helped me give healthier stuff as treats. Even a pellet
I just gave her lettuce last night. No parsley or cilantro. And I cleaned up the leftover wilty lettuce after it had been sitting for a while. Just in case her eating that was causing problems. She was like “wadda doing with my lettuce? I’m eating that!” LOL I need to probably measure out her lettuce rather than just give her a couple of handfuls that expand to way more than she can eat at one time. It usually all gets eaten by morning, but as you all know, it gets wilty after about an hour.
I am now giving her half a 1/4 cup of pellets to wean her off those. I just gave her some so once they are gone today, they are gone. And yes, she has hay. I put her hay on top of her litterbox since she’s always peed and pooped while eating it. And I just gave her fresh hay yesterday. But noooo, we have to have pellets too. lol
Treats are my downfall. She really doesn’t get very many per day because I only give her a treat if she begs or if I’m leaving. She sleeps almost all the time and I’m not going places very much now. And I have placed her treats on her pellet container so I’ll have to get off my lazy butt and get them.
I had to run to my surgeon’s office today and she got so happy over treats she did two binkies. LOL
I just use a pen for her area and she’s free range, so I need to figure out what to do for a hay rack. It would have to be free standing and empty over the litterbox so she pees in the box when she eats it. i’ll think of something and my dad can help me figure it out.
So I’m starting to change what she eats and how much and how often. Now…if I could only do that for myself! haha
Sometimes you may need to cut out her foods and add each one back slowly to watch for a reaction. This is how I found out Bubba could not eat fresh banana without poopy bum, and Suzy couldn’t have anything but very low fat/protine pellets and just leafy greens.
It’s always good to have her Vet checked of course, but these are just a few things I have found helped me with poo bums.
The glands you can check by taking a look on either side of her genitals and opening the little gland flaps, if there is brownish waxy stuff, you can use baby oil and a q-tip to easily clean out the area (Baby oil is much smoother then useing water, so it goes quicker).
