        Hello folks~

I recently purchased the Viking Farmer 2nd cut Timothy hay from Amazon, it is green and leafy, and my bunny Richard is crazy about it. When he is fed on this hay, his poops are in a water-drop shape, but each one is in a similar size, so weird in shape but even in size.

Normally his poops are healthy, round and about 8mm in radius when he’s on other hay (mountain grass from the Rabbit Hole or meadow hay from Oxbow). Meanwhile, I do notice when I feed him Orchard grass, his poops get smaller than those when he’s fed on Timothy.

So I just wonder if this is something to concern about and if I should continue feeding him this hay. Because even-sized poops seem fine, but the water-drop shape really concerns me.

I appreciate it if you could share some opinion on this.

Small, misshapen poops are usually a sign of dehydration. Does your bunny drink a decent amount of water?

The water-drop shape means a slight gut slowdown. This could be due to dehydration. Maybe he’s just not drinking more than normal butr eats a lot more of this apparently very yummy hay?

Any change of diet incl a change in type of hay can change the look and amount of poop. Sometimes just temporarily, sometimes the change is a direct effect of the components in the new hay. Shape will as a rule right itself, but color can depend on type of hay. Some hays give “golden” poop, other hays can give darker poop.
