This morning as I was changing the H20 in Dustor’s waterbottle, I noticed a small black ball in the previous water. At first I was concerned that a piece of the black rubber stopper had come off but it was completely round and uniform and the size of – feces…?  When I tipped the bottle and poured out the water the ball landed in my palm. I squeezed it and it dissolved into “smoky” dark brown water and digested hay!   The water bottle is a quart glass lixit bottle with one steel ball in the spout., the poop could get sucked in the tight squeeze past the ball, still completely round?  The spout is the narrowest one they make.  After putting fresh water in, I exchanged the spout for the next wider spout which I had also gotten because the rep I spoke to said that was the size I’d need for a bunny.  The new spout sounds like it has two balls in the spout.   If it’s still too wide for baby Dustor’s mouth, I’ll switch back.  Poop getting sucked into the water bottle never happened  before.  Does this happen with your ball-in-spout waterbottle?  Since it apparently got sucked in from his mouth would that be a cecal?

I can’t see how that would even be possible…

With buns, you learn something new every day! lol oh brother, I just switched from a waterbowl to a glass waterbottle because he was getting waste in his bowl – both pee and poop and hay, and I heard glass is best because plastic retains bacteria…now I need to worry that he dirties his glass waterbottle! I must’ve gone through 4 or 5 different types of water dispensers in the past 6 mos. Buns!

You said it Monkeybun…detective mysteries I eat up, bunnie mysteries…they sure leave me hopping.

The teleporting poop!! I love it. That’s exactly what it was, only – how did it teleport from his little rearend to the waterbottle? Oh well, he took a papaya bit from my hand when I put it near him. And let me pet him on the way back from cleaning his litterbox…so I guess I can forgive his “indiscretion.” lol

The poop dropping looked coal black when it was in the glass waterbottle. When I squished it it looked mostly black with just hardly any brown. I searched the forum for “poop in water bottle” and there was a discussion of black poops in which Ospry pointed out that black poops are indicative of too little fiber and not enough water in the diet. All the rest of his poops look black too. I had just gotten Dustor a new willow hay basket yesterday and he seemed to eat more than he has when he has to pull the hay through the bars from the hay buffet. And he drinks what seems to me a lot of water frequently. I’m concerned if my bunny isn’t drinking enough water or eating enough hay. When he lays stretched out he seems narrow in the loins with a little butt and maybe a narrow tummy. When he drank from the new spout I attached, he didn’t stay long at all at the bottle. He just pumped a couple times and left. I put the original narrow spout back on that he stays with longer. I don’t know how to get him to drink more and eat more hay.
