So, my apartment got a little flooded and I had to move my bunny Evie into a bathroom for three days– this was her setup before I got an Xpen, so it’s not completely foreign.  Anyway, before this she had almost impeccable litterbox habits with only a tiny bit of training and almost foolproof after spaying.  But, since she’s back in the Xpen she’s pooing EVERYWHERE.  Granted, she’s keeping it in her Xpen, but it’s all over the place and extremely unsightly.  She pees only in her box, and poos in the box, but poos everywhere else too, and not really one specific place.  I clean it up daily, putting it all back in her box, and clean her box often, too.  What else can I do?

That’s probably it until she goes back to the way things were, new territory gotta poo all over it! Maybe put the poos she does drop all over in the box but that’s all I can think of…

WOW I’m sorry your place got flooded! Hope nothing valuable was lost!

No, the flooding wasn’t a big deal. She is moved back and everything is normal– it’s been a week of back to normal and she’s still poo-bombing. I do put the poos in the box. Anything else? Thanks.

is there any residual smell on the floor perhaps? if she was moved and then moved back, it’s likely “new/different territory” marking. i would re-train her with hay in the box, limited runspace, diligent picking up of poos. she was spayed very recently, right?

It sounds to me like Evie is re-claiming territory. The move to the bathroom took her away from her usual spot and by any chance was the carpet or floor cleaned where it used to be where it would have removed her scent? Even it is wasn’t her scent would not be as strong as it was when she was in it and so she has the instinct and urge to mark everything. You might want to consider limiting her run space for a while until she has her impeccible litterbox habits back, then gradually give her more space again. How long has it been since you moved her back into the x-pen, a few days, a week or…? Depending on how long it has been I may suggest waiting it out a bit longer until she gets it out of her system to mark things.
