I recently (aka. yesterday) moved into a new apartment. My bun (a 6 year old female dutch) lives in a large build-it-yourself cage, except when I’m home and she can run around the house with me.

This morning I noticed that my bun was going to bathroom in the far corner away from her litterbox. At first it was just poo, so I thought she was marking her territory since it’s a new place (even though her cage is still the same). But now she has peed in that area twice. I have cleaned it up twice. And she just pooed in that area again 2 minutes ago.

My place is smelling like bunny piss and I’m at my wits end. She has never done anything like this before. I would move her litter box to that corner but it’s against a wall there and impossible for me to attach/unattach it from the cage wall in that corner.

What can I do to solve this problem??

She is super cute! I just saw the baby picture you posted in another thread.

Does the box have to be attached? Does she upturn it? I would place it there unattached for a few days just to see if she uses it. Then you’ll know for sure she’s nominated a new corner. They like corners.
For long term, you could attach an indentical box permanently as a holder then just sit the current one into that. I read of a member doing that and thought it was a clever way to secure the box.

Otherwise, can you locate her cage elsewhere?

How about 2 large cat boxes (no top) with rabbit litter and hay? Rabbits love to poop and eat at the same time.

I just moved into a new apartment in February and I had a similar issue.

Thank you for the fast replies! I wish I could move the cage, but we’re in a unique situation: I moved for graduate school so, for the first time, we’re both stuck in a bedroom together. Space is pretty limited. There’s a great little nook in the room that I have made all hers, but it makes getting access to parts of her cage a little difficult. I might try to double litter box idea though.

She, ironically, prefers to keep her food and litter separate. I have a hay rack near her litterbox so she can hang out and eat hay, but if you actually put it in the box she refuses to go to the bathroom there.
