Hi, old member, first time posting. I have Mini lop bunny  He is almost 2 years old. He’s very well taken care of and eats a variety of foods very well and lives in a 4 story cage. I’m very concerned because he’s been whining  almost like he’s in pain  He does this when lying still. If he did it while scratching a certain area, I’d assume that it was a rash. However, this is while he’s lying still. ANY ideas or insight would be VERY appreciative! I’m going to try and attach a small video. Thank you

I’m far from an expert but it sounds to me like bunny might be having respiratory issues. Sounds nasal to me. How long has this been going on? Any other symptoms (nasal discharge, drooling lethargy, etc)?

It also sounds nasal to me. Wick sometimes makes a noise similar to this when I’m cuddling him and I press down a certain way — I assume it’s based on how his airway is pressed during the cuddle session. Noises are much more apparent in rabbits with some sort of respiratory issues. Wick used to be very vocal, but now I know it was because his respiratory tubes were clogged.

It sounds like it could be a respiratory issue, if he’s only started doing it now. I would want a vet a to listen to his lungs. There is a bit of a wheeze at the end of each “whine”.

When my bunny Bam had a respiratory infection in his lungs, he occasionally made a soft sobbing sound but he didn’t have any nasal discharge or any other symptoms. My vet listened to his lungs and also did an awake lung x-ray to determine the extent of the lung involvement. Two weeks on Bactrim cleared it up completely.

Wow! That all sounds great, guys! And especially because you all say the same thing! It’s been going on for about a month or so and not all of the time, only sometimes. I think that I’ll take him to a decent rabbit vet, if I can find one. I’m in Philly. Thank you, again, I feel much better. Oh, and I LOVE your photos, their adorable!

ThumpersPapa, I’ve sent you a PM regarding a vet I know of in that area (ish).

Definitely nasal. I agree with the others.
