I know this is a rabbit forum but does anyone have any advice for playtime for guinea pigs? Normally the shelter has me taking care of rabbits but they have decided to put a bonded pair of guinea pigs in the adoption cage at the local pet store instead of a rabbit.

Also, what are the main differences between the diet and enclosures for rabbits and guinea pigs?

The main dietary difference is that guinea pigs must have added vitamin c in their pellets or vitamin c rich veggies to prevent them getting scurvy. Like humans they can’t synthesise their own so must have it available in food. Otherwise dietary aspects are same. Hay, veggies, pellets.

Guinea pigs can jump though not as well as rabbits so lower hides and levels are best for safety. There’s a YouTube channel called Little Adventures all about guinea pigs and she does some great play time videos which may provide some inspiration.

Check out Skinnypigs1 on youtube. She has 9 guinea pigs (I think?) and a bunny. Really informative videos (and cute ones too!)

For guinea pigs, I recommend also checking out happycavy.com. It has lots of useful information. If I remember correctly, at least 30 minutes of floor time a day is required for guineas. Guineapigmarket has good cage size charts you can check out. Guineas cages definitely don’t need to be as high as rabbits cages but depending on the piggy(if they like to escape) you may need to adjust. Guinea pigs require vitamin c tablets, again, I’d check out happycavy.com.

After opening their cage to put them in their play area I decided I wanted nothing to with guinea pigs. I hope they get adopted soon.

I have three new-ish ones, a freshly made trio, they came separately and we planned on not getting anymore but stuff happens! They are super cute and have such rich personalities. Although they are so messy, super hard (almost impossible) to litter train as well. They are basically all my sisters responsibility because i have my hands full with Onyx.
