Plastic fort ideas?

Hey guys!  I’m looking for ideas/inspiration.  My two bunnies and I just moved to a new city and, MUCH to my dismay, our new apartment turned out to be infested with bed bugs!!!    I am heartbroken because the exterminator says I have to get rid of all cardboard (including their beloved Maze Haven!) as well as the special 2-storey wooden condo I lovingly designed and built for them two years ago.  I designed it to fit their litterboxes perfectly, and made a carpeted step up to a second floor.  It’s been their home base ever since, and I am SO sad to see them lose it!!!   But the exterminator can’t treat it without it being toxic for them to chew on (I used untreated pine so they could chew away — and they do!), so it has to go.   

 

Unfortunately I’m not allowed to bring any more cardboard in, and their new bunny forts/tunnels/hideouts has to be made of plastic.  Unfortunately wood, willow, grass, and especially cardboard can harbor these bugs, and aren’t as easy to clean.  Have you seen any cool stuff done with plastic materials for bunnies?  I checked the photo albums on this site but saw mainly wood and wire setups.  The bunnies have free reign in the living room (though they won’t venture off their rugs onto the wood floors), so they just need some good hideouts.  I know they will miss their Maze Haven!!!

What about one of those little step stools they make for kids? Hmm like they use for potty training to reach the toilet? Or maybe even one of those baby/toddler playsets that you can add a rug onto for traction and they can still have a hiding place within/underneath.

Perhaps you can use plastic planters? they come in lots of shapes and sizes

I second those kids playhouses.
It sounds like you are crafty, so you might want to look into corroplast/correx, it’s like corrugated plastic that you can score and fold. If you get the thick stuff, you could build a condo like the wooden one you had.

You can do the littletykes with your buns. One of the members on here has one for his buns. And he lined it with carpet. Adding carpet doesn’t sound like a feasible idea right now. But once the bedbug issue clears up you can always think of adding it on.

Ooooohhh, little tykes stuff! I never thought of that! I love their stuff. I saw the carpeted slide and almost said “where’d ya get that?!” Imagine bunny 500’s through a carpeted little tykes thingy!

Will buns chew on little tykes stuff? If too hard/smooth to be chewed, I’m going shopping!

Thank you so much, everyone!  I need to stay away from corrugation, unfortunately, since it can provide hiding places for bugs.  But that sounds so enticing!  So far I went to Lowe’s and got these items (see photo) that I’m going to saw holes in (and sand down the edges so they’re not sharp) and connect to create a little bunny campus.  Not quite the amazingness I was hoping to find, but it’s a start.

I kind of really want to get it for the buns and make a plastic maze haven and/or tunnels.  It looks like the plastic is very hard and smooth, but do you think they’d end up chewing on those ends anyway??

Those look so cool. I think you can probably see if they start chewing on the things you bought so far. If not, it might be safe to get the grids you linked to.
