        Hello everyone!

So as you guys may know I’m getting two Angoras very soon and I have been having a few questions (sorry about all those).

Iv’e heard from a couple books and sights that Pineapple juice is good for helping your bun to digest hair. Is this correct? Do any of you give or have giving your buns this? If so what kind? I want to give these buns a great home and wonderful life so I just want what’s best.

Also I know this probably shouldn’t be in this section but do any of you guys with Angoras use a Furmanatior? Or on any type of bun? Do they work well?

        Sorry for all the questions!

        Thanks in advance

I’ve seen the pic the’re so adorable! And they probs will soon become mass wool producers lol

As for pineapple/papaya, my vet said it’s not true and suggested me to use maltose paste (the one for cats), but I never got to do it yet. My bun is not an angora but he’s probably a mix cause he has a very very thick wooly coat in winter. I use a mix of grooming glove, cardator brush (the metal one) and the furminator. I usually go in last with the furminator cause that thing is too strong and it might hurt the skin by ripping off wool or plainly just ruin the coat because I’ve seen it cuts off/strips too much hair at a time. What I do is use the glove routinely for the small works, then use the carding brush/my fingers to pluck out the big chunks when the shed begins and when he’s at full shed I add in the furminator to take off the loose stuff I couldn’t reach with the brush.

I got the smallest furminator (green top one), that I believe should be for kittens

            Hi!
Thank you so much for your reply! Thank you, I bet they will. Their going to be little fur monsters lol

Let me know if you ever try that maltose paste and if it works. I’m going to buy the Oxbow digestive support treats because I have heard a bunch of buns love those. Have you ever tried them? As for the brushes I have a cardator brush and I’m going to get a wide tooth comb (someone else’s suggestion). I’ll look int the kitten furminator. Do you think I should get the glove? I’m also getting a slicker brush and have a soft bristle brush

Thank you for all the info this will help me out a lot! Your bunny is SO cute BTW

Thanks Kuro lost his ear to a furball lodged in his stomach that almost killed him back in february, so brushing is taken very seriously in this home (not that I didn’t brush him before that, but evidently mistakes were made).
The maltose stuff according to my squad of vets works very well, but they suggest it to be “prescribed” by at least a nurse because obviously the quantity has to be tailored to the bun’s size and need, so next time you get around your vet you could ask about it

As for diet, he’s getting plenty of fibers (hay, fennel, celery), no kale or cauliflower to avoid gas, then he’s having Bunny’s Bunny Traum (Bunny Dream) pressed hay pellets and Vitakraft’s Life Dream pellets for treats. According to the vet, what caused him the furball problem was the use of a water dish instead of a bottle, because he probably shed so fast that the hair fell into the water and he drank it up before I could get to change the water, even if I was changing it daily… so I’ll always recommend using bottles!

The brushing glove is nice cause you can reach their little faces without risking to hurt them and, once they get over the shock of that big thing looming over them, I think they find it quite nice, like a massage I do most of the work by keeping him in my lap and pulling out by hand his endless strands of loose fur, then while he’s eating or making sweet love to his doll I go in with the cardator and take out the rest

Oh no I’m so sorry! Yeah hair can cause many problems it’s scary! And I use bowls! I’ll make sure to but a water bottle as well, just to be safe

Okay great! I feed timothy hay (small pet select) 24/7, a salad every day (it usually depends on what I have but mostly herbs, romaine etc) nothing to watery.
Oats for treats or fruit. Adult rabbit timothy hay pellets by Oxbow and of course water.

Okay great I’ll add one to my list (keeps adding up lol but always love buying for the buns). What brand would you suggest? Hahaha all my buns have always hated getting brushed!

Thanks again for all your help! It means a lot to me for you to take the time to do this

I use a Furminator and grooming glove too on Luna (mini lop). It works great, though you have to take care not to scratch your bun’s fragile skin with the metal teeth. I just use it on the areas with thicker fur – her chest and bum. A few members here (including myself) have purchased one that looks like this: https://www.amazon.com/Upgrade-Version-Pet-Grooming-Glove/dp/B01N9KSITZ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1509884047&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=blue+grooming+glove&psc=1

Hi. My former vet (now retired) was a bunny specialist for decades. In her experience, papaya and pineapple helped reduce or eliminate strung poos so she highly recommended the enzyme. Since she swore by it, we tried it and saw results ourselves. Clear results. But we don’t do fruit flesh or juice due to sugar content. We now do fresh pineapple peel. It’s hugely fibrous and has a high concentration of the beneficial enzyme. Plus my little guy likes the tooth workout.

Q&bunny, wow thank you so much! This is sure to be really helpful with my buns. Hahahah, helps with digestion and is a chew toy! A good deal

Can’t wait to try this out on my buns!
                        Thank you!

I also give mine chunks of fresh pineapple if I see string poops. I know others aren’t convinced it works, but in my opinion it does no harm and might help, so you might as well.
