Before I get my bunnies tomorrow, I’ve been spending a lot of time with my friend’s female rabbit. It seems like she enjoys getting petted because she stays still and looks like she’s relaxed but… I’m not sure if she really likes it or not……??? She doesn’t run away or fight me or grunt/thump at me, but I’m just curious how a bunny shows that they enjoy their little head/body rubs? I read that they purr but I haven’t ever heard a bunny purr….. I just wanted to know if I’m scaring the rabbit more than making the petting session a relaxing thing for her. I wouldn’t want be associated as something scary to my friend’s rabbit or my rabbits.

They tend to grind their teeth when u pet them. It shows pleasure and they also tend to be in a comfortable position like folding their legs into a ball. U will know f they dislike u petting them as they nornally will run away from you, kicking dirt, using their nose to push ur hand away or nibble/bite u. If they like being pet they will be in an ease position rather than being in a cautious state

Our three boys show happiness differently. Blue will chatter and loaf. Bombur will sprawl and sleep. Badger will repeatedly nose poke your hand and chin mark. I think every bun is a little bit different, so as long as the rabbit doesnt seem upset or nervous, i would assume it enjoys the petting

They tend to up and leave if they don’t want to be pet. They’re like “Did I say you could pet me, human??”
Signs of liking being pet can be many, f ex sitting still, putting the chin to the ground or “melt”/ half-melt (the bunny sort of sinks down, flattens and widens) nose-bumping your hand or even nip if you stop petting them, tooth-purrs, reciprocating by licking your hand.

Buns often prefer being pet on the head, ears and nose over being pet on their back. I think being pet is very important for bunnies. When you see a bonded bunny-couple together, they groom each other a lot. I think it’s been established that grooming between animals strenghtens the social bonds between them.
