I had posted this at end of ”PETCO ceases sale of Rabbits” thread and would like some opinions.

        Thread ref. https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/forumid/2/postid/83478/view/topic/Default.aspx

I’ve been thinking if we could somehow influence further change for other chain line pet stores.

My thought is; if members were to email PETCO congratulating them on this decision and approval of their affiliation with rabbit rescues. Also, making a special note that we now recommend PETCO are one of the places to go for people looking to get a rabbit because they support adoption. Free publicity for them in a way…more customers visiting the store etc. Then hoping their competitors would catch on and what a good move it has been for business. Flow on effect.

Do think that’s possible?  That this sort of response could create further change?

          AB SO LUTE LY!!

First dollars talk. Vote with your money-secondly numbers-people taking the time to write/email in.
Petsmart stopped sales of rabbits and ceased their trial of spay/neutered dwarfs from this. I think this is a great place to rally the numbers, spend five minutes a week and write for some rabbit causes!

Their is a blog, fugly horse of the day, about horse issues. The author has caused huge changes just by writing about it, so her followers take heed and write to the people/companies. Their have been serious issues addressed by one little blog!!

This is a huge website with much more readership=I seriously think we can do great things for rabbits and the homeless rabbit population internationally!!

I do know that PetSmart went way up in my book this year when they started carrying Oxbow products.

One way to show support is to have people all buy one thing from Petco as a Thank You. I don’t have one close by, but online orders can be placed as well, if we can figure out a way to indicate that it’s due to this cause. Any suggestions? Like a line in each signature that we all copy?

            Money does talk.

I was just looking at the Petco website. They have a “Think Adoption First” intiative to benefit not just rabbits. I’m not all that familiar with Petco as it’s American company. So Petsmart is another pet store that is pro-adoption?

I met the PRESIDENT of the HRS in the whoollle US today *feels special*, and she was talking about this. She was saying how incredible it was that Petsmart is taking such steps, but that she thinks they didn’t make much profits off of selling rabbits anyway.. and the pet stores that were only selling spayed/neutered rabbist were spudering them WAAYYY to early, causing problems/death, sometimes right away.

so this probably forced them to stop selling, and.. well.. idk.

yes PetSmart is a lot like PetCo, but I’m pretty sure they are not pro adoption. Its just that they carry Oxbow.

I like this idea of writing to them….I usually order my supplies in bulk, online….and I think I will start going to PetCo…

Yes, I meant that PetSmart carries Oxbow now. Although, the one near me has a large cat adoption area set aside that’s tended to and they have adoptions scheduled regularly, along with puppies up for adoption outside (visiting shelters set up for a morning) and an indoor training area. Also a permanent grooming shop and dog/cat vet section. Quite an operation and they keep it clean. Just no bunnies and no bunny adoptions.

Petco was working with adoption shelters before them, but they also had the glass cages for bunnies and it wasn’t so clean (When I went there before Sammy. I was considering adopting one of theirs, but they weren’t all that healthy). I guess it varies from store to store anyway. You could ask the shelters who work with them what the profit to Petco really is to have them set up there.

bunnyballet – I’m Impressed! (Got her home email so we can bother her to distraction? Just kidding.) What a wonderful job to have. I can see K&K doing that with her career someday. Or you. We can say we knew you when.

hah! I already bother her enough, she gets all of the rabbit toys/products that binkybunny sells at wholesale price and sells them for around the same price– extra $$ goes to the buns, and I don’t have to pay shipping! So, I put in a big order (:
