I looked at their website, and my local store carries 7 brands of rabbit food. Some I’ve never heard of and I can see that some have colored bits and seeds and ingredients like corn, which should be avoided. The brands listed were Kaytee, Oxbow, Vitakraft, Russell Rabbit, F.M. Brown’s, Sun Seed and Carefresh. I don’t know if the bulk feed would come from any of those or not. If you wrote down or remember the ingredients that the clerk told you, you could go to their site and see if you see anything that matches what he said. Or maybe you could call them and ask for a manager, to see if he or she would know the brand.

Pet Supplies Plus carries a couple of varieties of rabbit pellets under its house brand. I think the one you want to look at is their plain timothy-hay-based variety, which looks to be fairly close in formulation to Oxbow’s Bunny Essentials Adult Rabbit Food. I’ve seen it in all the PSP stores I’ve been in and I have seen the ingredients listed in labels on the side of the dispenser. That being said, I seem to remember it has a lower percentage of minimum/maximum fiber than Oxbow’s Essentials, which has up to 29% fiber (in fact, it’s got more fiber than their Garden Select and also is cheaper for more – 5 pounds as opposed to 4 pounds). I’ve given Oxbow to Panda and Fernando ever since adopting them and they greatly relish it. My own three rules of thumb for rabbit pellets are that they should be plain (no extraneous nuts, seeds, corn, etc.), the primary ingredient for adult pellets should be timothy hay meal, and they should have the highest level possible of fiber.

I’m quite fond of Pet Supplies Plus myself; their store in Fairfax, VA has a long-standing relationship with Friends of Rabbits and hosts weekly Q&A events. I customarily buy my Oxbow pellets and Carefresh litter from them and would buy Oxbow treats from them as well if they had those in their inventory.
