My endlessly naughty girly just ate maybe 3 inches of of a 1-cm wide soft silky ribbon. I caught her tugging on it but it disappeared into her mouth before I could do anything!  As a precaution, I’ve emptied her litterbox so I can keep an eye on her poop output for a while, and restocked her hay box with lots and lots of fresh hay from the bag (she goes nuts for new hay). Any other suggestions? Siiiigh Peppy, why have you got to be such a silly bun?

I don’t know why rabbit’s have to be so silly, if you find out can you let me know?

I personally would only let her have hay for the next day – lots of fibre to move the ribbon through – and have plenty of fresh water available. I’m sure she’ll be fine and you’ll be monitoring her anyway

Oh No! Bindi pulled the same thing with a small rubber band once. Thankfully he was fine. Just keep a close eye on her.

No poopies yet, but lots and lots of hay consumed and I’ve been giving her bits of vegetable now and then to make sure her apetite is still intact! Hopefully it’ll be okay

I’m sure she’ll be fine but it was a good idea to empty the litter box so you can monitor the poop situation. I would think that the ribbon would have to be a lot longer to create any real problems. My rabbits are always pulling strings from the edge of our rugs and eating them, and BunBun has gobbled up most of one of my daughter’s rubber bracelets. The weird thing is that he never seems to poop anything out- I hate to think of what he has stored in that little belly of his. I found this questionarre online once about the weirdest thing people’s rabbits have ever eaten, and some of the responses were pretty shocking. It’s a bad combination- a delicate digestive system and an insatiable desire to eat bizarre household items. I think a piece of ribbon is on the tamer side of what somebunnies have ingested .

Peppy is doing just fine…going on pooping sprees as usual and pigging out, lol. I guess she decided my life had gotten a little boring and just wanted to scare me up a bit

I can’t help but to think of that little ribbon balled up in her tummy as a bout of GI stasis waiting to happen though, eek. Can bunnies digest polyester ribbons?  Poor girl already has stasis issues…but thanks for the kind words and help, everybody!

It’s hard to know if that would break down or not. Even natural fibres like cotton wouldn’t completely breakdown. It’s good she kept eating hay, that’ll keep the gi sytem moving fast. I would have thought undigestable stuff would actually exit their bodies faster. Maybe she chewed it up some. Hope it doesn’t cause her any problems. It sounds as if it hasn’t thank goodness.
