Peppermint needs a tooth trim

Poor old Peppermint – I took him today to have a six month exam.  He last had one when I had to have his bonded mate Peaches put to sleep when she to so sick.  He is about 9 years old now.

 He has lost almost a pound – I knew he seemed slimmer and seemed to be drinking more water.  One of his teeth is pointing into his cheek – there may be more but that what she could see but she won’t know until Wednesday when we go in for the trim.  We are doing some bloodwork as well since it’s been a year since we did that to make sure there isn’t anything else.

 By the way, my vet does not take blood from the ear – I don’t know of any vet that does.  She takes it from a vein in the back leg – she stretches it out and takes blood that way.  

It’s sad that he hasn’t shown any symptoms and hopefully it will be a one time trim.  I hope it’s just the teeth and a one time problem or at least a dental problem that doesn’t need trims every other month like Bobby and Toffee.

I have never had a vet take blood from the ear either (seems so painful!), It has always been from the leg.

My vets always take blood from the ear. Drives me nuts because it leaves a nasty welt. >_< That is if they remember to do it while my bunnies are under.

Wow, I’ve never heard of taking blood from the ear, so I guess I’ve been lucky with my vets.
Good luck with Peppermint on Wednesday. It explains weight loss, so let’s hope he’s a happy, hungry bunny after it’s done.

Thanks MM. He had his dental trim today and the vet said he had a few sharp points – I feel bad but he has never changed his behavior other than not eating as much. I hope he starts eating well again.

My little old bun did eat some today – I had fed him a bit of lettuce and kale – I can still tell his mouth is a bit uncomfortable or feels funny to him. I’ll continue with metacam through the weekend. More vibes for Peppermint please. He’s such a good rabbit.

I’ve never seen a vet actually take blood from an animals ear? It bleeds sooo slow that I would think it would be virtually impossible to get a decent sample. The only thing I’ve seen done is taking a blood glucose from an ear, but that’s just one drop…
