Hey all!  I have noticed my bunny Pepper has a wet eye.  It has happened before and usually heals after a few days.  I’m not sure that is the case this time.  The eye doesnt seem to red, swollen, and I dont see any white puss.  She is also acting like her normal silly self and eating like a train lol.  I ran into a few videos that suggest to use a mixture of chamomile tea and eye bright.  The other option is to use this stuff Colloidal silver.

I went searching this morning and I was not able to find the liquid form of eye bright.   I did however find a small spray bottle of Colloidal Silver.  I notice it says 10 ppm.  It also says that kids should be given 15 sprays each application, and to apply as necessary.

I wanted to ask you all today if you have ever used this method before.  Also how much is to much spray for a rabbit.  I get the idea is to “disinfect” and clean the eye right ?

        Here are some photos!

        Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

My opinion – Colloidal silver is pretty much snake oil. It has antibacterial properties, but it isn’t the cure-all that it has been hyped up to be. Is it safe? Well, I guess it depends. Topical is probably harmless, but I would advise against giving it orally to rabbits.

The bigger question here is what is causing the weeping? Is it an infection? Or could it be dental issues? It would be good to get a diagnosis before trying to treat at home. There are antibiotic eye drops available that are safe for rabbits. Plus a vet can flush the tear duct if it is blocked. If it is dental issues though, that would be a completely different course of treatment.

Thank you for your reply.   Im taking the snake oil idea as being a bandaid.   And yes topical would be the idea,  to spray it around the eye.  This stuff came with a sprayer so orally wouldn’t be in the question.

Of course.  I have thought about this as well.  I did not know they could flush the tearducts?  That is a good thing.  I have to find a good rabbit vet.  The few places in my area dont seem to handle rabbits very well.  Basically I’m not sure If I trust them.  Ugh.  Will report back.  Thanks again for the info and time to reply!  Happy Halloween!!
