Poor dude.  I took him yesterday to have his teeth checked again because he was acting up like he does when his teeth hurt.

The vet said he had a little molar spur but the tooth that she had been watching that was loose was ready to be pulled so she pulled it.  I unfortunatley don’t know which one sine I was caught up with Twizzler as well but I’m going to find out the next time I go in with Maxine for her laser therapy.

I gave him metacam and reglan last night and a bit of buprenex this morning and he was trying to eat some greens.  I’ll probably hand feed him tonight just to make sure since I imagine that his mouth is sore.  He was a little out of it this morning too so hopefully when I get home he’ll be a little perkier.  I just don’t want another bout of stasis like we had!  That would throw me over the edge.

good grief Sarita, you must certainly win Bunny Nurse of the Year award. It amazes me how you handle so many different problems at one time. Having had life long dental problems, I feel for poor Pepe,

          ((((healing vibes for you both)))))

          Kathy

Poor Pepe! (((((((feel better toofy vibes))))) How do bunny teeth come loose when they don’t eat the sugar we do? Do bunnies get tartar deposits that loosen the gumline like other animals?
I think Sarita may need some feel better vibes too, this must be terribly draining. ((((((((hugs)))))))))

I hope Pepe is feeling better and eating. Metacam tends to upset my dog’s stomach too, I have to be very careful about giving it to him but when he’s hurting, it has to be done.

Poor Pepe AND Sarita! I’m sorry you’ve had so much to deal with these past couple weeks. I hope that Pepe does OK eating and is feeling better very soon.

Pepe recovered quite quickly this time! I have decided after all his dental procedures to do reglan as well as the pain meds after talking with Kathy Smith about this and she’s right, I think it helps.

MM, I have no idea why his tooth was loose, I can only attribute it to his slight malocclusion that he has. I had a friend who had a Jersey Wooley who had awful dental problems (abscesses, loose teeth, etc) as well which was probably the result of bad breeding (her rabbit was a rescue from Best Friends and was probably inbred – not at Best Friends of course).

Of course, it’s not true either that they don’t eat sugar – I give mine treats like craisins and those are chock full of sugar.

I don’t believe rabbits get tartar deposits because their teeth are constantly growing.

I’m glad to hear Pepe is doing well! Mine get the craisins too – I have heard that cranberries are one of the better fruits when it comes to sugar.

Glad to hear he’s doing well.

I will second the vibes for you, Sarita. What an ordeal over the past month.

That’s good information to know, Sarita. I hadn’t thought of it that way. I am still looking for reasons for Mimzy’s nasal issues, so anything on bunny teeth that I can absorb helps a lot. Thank you.
lolz…and I was thinking sugar content more like soda pop and peppermint bark, which I am consuming myself at a furious rate. (It’s a bad habit, I know, but the darkness here makes sugar cravings worse.)
Has anyone ever studied the actual sugar content in craisins/carrots/raisins/bananas and computed how much potential sugar a bunny takes in during a specific time period? I would be interested in knowing how it measures up against what people consume.

Right now the only treats mine get are the timothy treats and veggie treats by Oxbow. I’m trying my best to keep them off fruit or too much carrot. I up their veggie count instead.

*sigh* This reminds me how badly I need to see my dentist. >_< Funny, that stresses me more than my oncology appointments. I hate people poking around in my mouth with sharp objects.

At least Pepe got to be asleep while having this done!

Oh good! I’m glad he’s recovering well.

I sure hope after this you get a bit of a break from rabbit health issues and enjoy a hiatus of peaceful bunny bliss.
