So just to recap: Penny got a little sick so I had to give her gross meds 2 times a day, then her neuter happened, and it’s been about a week since her neuter. I mean his. Dang it! Penny is a boy, but I call him “her”. Anyways, when I open the pen in the morning, Max comes out and says hello, but Penny hides in her play pen until I leave the area and darts out to hide in my closet. At first I thought that this was because of the meds and her associating me with the yuckiness. But she’s still doing it. When I lay down near her, she runs away. She rarely lets me give nose rubs- only if I give her noms first. Now Max is totally the opposite. He’s very social and loves attention. Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything I can do to help her warm up to me?

Maybe it’s male pride – he’s not a she. He wants you to start calling him Butch or Rock.
Seriously, he may just be slow to trust and not very affectionate. I think bunnies come around even if they will never be cuddly. Remember you will have your bunny for many years, so you can take your time in building your relationship. He may hang out near you first, then get closer. Don’t chase him. Let him come to you when you hang out on the floor.

I think it’s just “the change” – he just got neutered and his body is going through alot so that is some of the problem. Just hang in there and be patient. Also some rabbits are just more social than others and remember while Penny was one way as a baby he may be very different as an adult…aren’t we all :~)

Much of the time too it may take his friend to get him out of his shell – rabbits are great at teaching each other things – trust is one of them and some bad habits too (but I don’t think you need to worry about that because Max doesn’t have any bad habits to teach Penny).

Well yes, Max is the perfect bun. He has been teaching penny about the litter box so that’s good.

I can handle a shy bun, it just makes me sad to think that she might be scared of me. I will definitely take things very slowly with her. I mean him.

back on track : buttons was like this. alway hiding in his little house. heres what i did:

put max in a carrier or a nother room so he’s not a distraction

whats penny’s fav treat? lie down at eye level next to her, errr his, enclosure and hold out the treat. this might take a while for him to come to you. for buttons it took a few weeks. two?i think i recall that. take it slow
