Okay i’m new to the forum. I have two mini lops and a mixed breed(about 4-6 pounds). How many x-pens do i need to house them. Right now they are in a cube condo and i don’t like the setup.

Welcome – is it a bonded trio?

The bare-minimum size would be (for each rabbit) four times the size of the rabbi stretched completely out-so if you took that for all three rabbits and multiplied by four that’s how much room you’d want. For a pen that may be hard to achieve. A condo is hard to clean depending on how you make it-you may think about just redesigning your condo to suit what you need-since multi levels will likely more adequately accomodate the bunnies in less space

              BTW welcome to Binkybunny!

This video shows a bunny trio and they are pretty cute, but their cage is about the right size it seems for three of them,

Oh my gosh, they are so cute! They look like they get quite a bit of out of cage play time too.

I have a double xpen that I use for two buns, but it’s definitely large enough for a trio. Each xpen has 8 24-inch wide panels. I only use 12 out of the available 16 panels to make it rectangular, total area is 4 feet deep by 8 feet long. The benefit to using the xpens is that it is super easy to lift the whole thing off the rug in one piece to clean and to get fur out of the corners of the room. I can completely overhaul the room with a thorough cleaning in about 30 minutes tops (including litterboxes). I have a room that is just for the bunnies, so it was easy for me to devote that space to them.

Xpens would not work for everyone. Depending on what other pets you have, they may not be secure enough. Also, it’s a sort of big initial investment. Each 36 inch tall pen costs about 75 bucks. So $150 was spent on the two pens. But if you’re a bunny lover like me, you know the buns you have now will not be your last buns. Xpens will be able to be reused over and over. If at any point you are not using one of the xpens, they can fold up “accordian style” and be stored away in less than 5 minutes.

With pens the space is spread out but they are much easier to clean in my opinion than condo’s. If you have the space I think they would be great for your trio.

The pen set-up Beka has is great and is perfect for a trio if you have the room. i ditto Sarita. I too have done both the grid condo (when our space was limited) and pens, and for me, pens are easier to clean. Some people use both the grids and xpens for a combined housing and exercise area.

Check out our cool habitats section under bunny info for some pen set-up ideas too.

steveandpepper – thanks for sharing the youtube videos of the trio. They were so cute!!
