Well good news everyone! I found pellets in my area.They Are Kaytee timothy complete.Good or no good?

The Kaytee Timothy pellets are fine for an adult rabbit.  I think there are quite a BinkyBunny members that feed those pellets- just make sure when you buy them that you are getting the rabbit pellets as the guinea pig pellet bag looks very similiar.

No guinea pig pellets for buns. They are higher in vitamin C (since pigs require more Vitamin C in their diets). I don;t think they would *hurt* the bun, but you should feed regular tim pellets.

I feed my bunny that as it’s the best I can find in my city. Bunny enjoys it!

Good advice on the guinea pig bag. I have mistakenly picked up the guinea pig bag instead of the rabbit food bag. >.<

I felt pretty stupid after that, so now I always double check.

I use these… or Forti Diet ProHealth Adult which i think has a slightly higher fiber content but the same basic ingrediants

Kaytee uses a preservative called Exthoxyquin. In high concentrations it may cause cancer. It was originally used to preserve rubber. Most pet parents don’t want to take chances on it if other food’s without the preservative are available, like Oxbow. Many find it questionable and not worth the headache or worry.

Just food for thought, It’s up to you to decide of course. If you Google “Exthoxyquin” you will find a lot of helpful information on both sides.

Yes, that’s exactly why I buy the Oxbow brand. I needed a high fiber for my dwarf lops poopy butts. The Timothy complete did help with that but I wouldn’t buy a second bag after reading the ingredence. Silly me only read the fiber/fat ect content area & I know better. I wish the Oxbow company used a different vitamin K though as Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Vitamin K) is also a chemical that I would much prefer not to have.

If anyone knows of a good quality, high fiber, timothy based pellet that does not contain Menadione or  Exthoxyquin, please, please, please, let me know.

When I first got Cotton I asked my vet about that preservative- Exthoxyquin- and all she could really tell me that are many arguments against and many arguments that it is OK/not proven to be harmful.  I also own parrots and a lot of parrot owners especially are concerned about Exthoxyquin- so that is one of the reasons I went with Oxbow instead.  My vet owns a house rabbit also and she feeds him Kaytee Timothy.

There are 3 timothy pellets available in my area- Kaytee Timothy, Oxbow, and Zupreem.  I emailed all of them with some question or other to see their response.  Oxbow was very helpful, Zupreem just emailed me back a link to their info on the website that I was questioning and I can’t remember if I emailed Kaytee or not.  Even if the Kaytee pellets are great- I do dislike that almost all the other products they make are not healthy at all.  But if that is what you can get in your area it makes more sense to feed Kaytee Timothy than less healthier pellets just because of the other products they make.

We can all only do the best we can. Did that make sense? I didn’t mean to imply that you weren’t doing the best for buns. I also am not rich. I only meant to offer information, so we can all make informed decisions.

CLB there is nothing at all wrong with Kaytee Timothy Pellets and they are perfectly fine for you to feed to your rabbits.

I absolutely agree. You do what you can with the resources you have available. Your bun is already at an advantage b/c you give unlimited hay and daily veggies, this is the major part of the diet. As long as you have a quality timothy pellet that meets most of the requirements, or is very close, and this is fed in a limited amount, you should be good.
