My 6 month old Netherlands dwarf bunny used to be perfect as far as the litter box, almost NEVER even a single pellet outside of her box. We went on a road trip recently and I brought her with a litter travel carrier (not the one she was used to….mistake) and she pooped all over the place. Now we are back home (week long trip) and she seems to now poop pellets here and there, when before she NEVER did. Also she is acting weird, circling me, seems more excitable than usual, I’m sure it’s time to be spayed so I’ve made an appointment . My question is could this litter box set back be due to the recent travel trip, or bc she is going thru puberty and it just happened to happen at the same times. Any tips on getting her back to the way she used to be? Pellet free? Should I just chill until after she is spayed? Thanks so much in advance!

It could be both. 6 months sounds about right for hormones to kick in.

Sometimes a change of environment can also trigger a loss of litter habits. This should go back to normal after a while once she is retrained, but if it’s due to hormones, then it won’t truly go away until she is spayed. Bunnies will also have a hormone spike period post-spay that will take some time to die down.

While waiting for her spay, you could try to retrain her by putting her poop in the box.
