        And dude – they’re Oxbow!

The past few days, I have watched Coco peeing on things. Inside her litter box/cage – so it isn’t a mess, but oddly on or near her food. She turned and peed into her pellet bowl this morning.

I mean, I know she doesn’t LOVE the change to the timothy based pellets, but peeing on them seems a bit much.

Yesterday, she peed on the rest of the baby bok choy I had out for her.

Is this a phase? Is my rabbit becoming R Kelly?

and i *know* she’s spayed. very weird. uh… how often are you cleaning out the litterbox? has there been any change as far as the feeding schedule? or arrangement of the cage? they do have food dishes that can be attached higher up. how does the urine look? it is possible it might also be an infection.

I saw some reddish urine a few days ago – but the stream today looked rabbit normal.

You know, now that I think about it, there has been a change in the feeding schedule. School is back in session and so I am working ( I teach at McGill) and gone a bit more than I was before.

I did Just clean her litterbox and cleaned the food tray ( and got a nip on my own bum for it), and I usually clean it every other day – as she is a one bun and I brush up the poops and empty them every day, but refill the yesterdays news/with hay on top every other day.

She may just be mad that I am gone more these days.

Cage arrangement has been the same….OH!

I just *think* I got it.

Coco loved to chew on my long cotton curtains. On Sunday, I took them down – hemmed them ( to get rid of the part she was chewing) and put them back up. She’s been a ticked off bunny ever since – to lose her favorite chew toy.

Good call Beka – I think I am seeing Mad Coco behavior.

Ruby moves her water bowl all over. From the front to under the hay holder. It spills and she gets wet. She used to pee on her food either her or Nora. I don’t have Nora no more. My friend really really wanted her.

There is no more peeing on the food.  I have as of today put a water bowl that screws to the side of the cage. That way she doesn’t move it all over spill it get wet and get hay in it.  She likes the bowls better so she still has her bowl. I didn’t put in a water bottle. I find mine prefer bowls.

I’d still keep close eye on things for a while. Going outside the litter box can still indicate a health issue.
Maybe you can give her the offcut of the curtain? Mine likes to chew the curtains too but she doesn’t actually eat them. If you think it safe enough, maybe that would appease her.

jerseygirl – I offered the cutoffs from the curtains, but they were not as appealing as they were when hanging.

BUT I bought an Oxbow Habitat ( large) and some papaya pellets and I think I may be forgiven. She is biting the heck out of the Habitat, so I think I have solved the substitute biting.

And Coco didn’t eat the curtains either – she would just bite chunks out of them and leave them there on the floor. I suspect it felt “good” for her to chew on that.

I wish I could post a picture of the sad, chewed up holey curtains….

Did you make the change over all at once or gradually? This sounds like Baleful is objecting to the change and is letting you know…just saying it with pee. I don’t think that would make a good greeting card, huh?

If you made a sudden change over it is best to do it gradually (instructions should be on the Oxbow bag).  If you’ve done it gradually, try to find a dish that you can attach to the side of the cage and elevate it some so your stinker can’t leave a wet calling card in it.
