Lately Hazel has been peeing right next to the litterboxes I have for her in the bedroom. I have no clue why she’s doing this, since she is SO good about using the boxes. It started after I brought her home from the vet after her CT and nasal flush; at first I dismissed it thinking she was just feeling a bit off. But it has continued for the past few days. I did change out her old litterbox (a smaller corner-style one) for a bigger cat litterbox, but I don’t see why that would affect her use of BOTH the litterboxes in the bedroom. I have tried rearraging the boxes, moving them forward over the spot where she peed or turning the boxes one way or the other, but I haven’t seen that much of a difference. I usually find a wet spot right next to one or both of the boxes daily.

I am wondering if maybe she is accidentally peeing over the side, since sometimes she backs up pretty far when she pees? Otherwise maybe it has something to do with me changing the old box out for the new one, and she’s grumpy about it? At the moment I moved the ottoman she sleeps on up against the wall to block off one corner of the room and put the litterbox in front of it. I kept the other litterbox in the corner where it was and just cleaned up the spot.

        Any thoughts?

My Pepper did that right after we brought her to the vet too. Maybe they feel like, “HOW DARE YOU BRING ME TO THAT AAAWWWFFFUUULLL PLACE?! I’M FEELING REBELLIOUS!!!!”

            Few things can cause it:

            UTI
Territorial marking – you did just change things in her litter area, that usually brings about some sort of marking
Litter too high causing her to pee over the side, or box too low sided
            Upset, mad bun

Powder does it sometimes. Usually if the box is too dirty (can’t get his dainty paws in any droppings or wet litter), or he’s mad at me about something.

Molly used to consistently pee outside her litterbox once she started getting bigger. the small corner one just wasnt big enough anymore and her little bum would hang off the side. It wasn’t her fault, but it was still making a huge mess. Try getting even bigger litterboxes, that way there is even less chance of this happening. If it still happens, then she might be marking or something else.

                I’m thinking territorial marking.

Do you have hay in the box, and does she eat it out OUTSIDE of the box? Chacha was doing this for a while when I let her come in and out of my room as she pleases. Now it is getting a lot better, as she sees mommy throwing her poo back into the box.

My room smells too much like me, so she doesn’t like it

My bunny is having this issue as well! took her to the vet and they said it was unlikely that she had a UTI because normally they would feel it when they rub her belly and bladder, she’s still doing this and i don’t know why. she’s also spayed
