I had to get a litterbox withi higher edges for Griffin- as he was having the exact same problem- and that made a world of difference- he can no longer overshoot the box.

I think you just need a box with higher sides so she can’t get her butt over the edge.

Also, just make sure the litter isn’t too deep, if the litter is too high it makes the sides lower. Sometimes I make the litterbox pretty shallow with litter but just put a little pile in the corner the bun uses so they are sitting lower to the bottom of the box.

Katie, that’s a good point. I use just enough litter to cover the bottom of the box and then push much of it into the back corners because Otto only pees in those two corners. I like to put a papertowel under the litter just to absorb a little more and make it easier to clean.

Buns like to back up into the corner to pee. The issue is going to be with the box not being high enough, NOT with her training. She thinks she’s doing everything right! You can also get those guards that snap onto the cat litterbox.

this is a big problem because she IS littertrained but with the pee’ing over the edge my mom thinks she isnt… and therefore now she feels even more strongly that bunnies cannot be trained. ugh!

Well, it should not be a problem if you get her a different litter box with higher sides.

If thats the case… cage is too small. Looking at it, it looks far too small for her anyway…

There’s lots of other things you can use. Try looking in kitchen or laundry departments of stores for containers or plastic basins. They manage quite well getting into something with higher sides.

When Sammy was peeing over the side (teenager) I got the high-sided square box. It worked very well, though it was too big to fit through the door. After several months of struggling with the bigger pan, I tried a small cat box like the one in your picture, and she was fine! She had been spayed, was older, more used to peeing there, and it wasn’t a problem anymore.

If a temporary box change doesn’t work, or is too big for her little cage, try attaching some stiff acrylic sheeting along the sides of her cage, and put a plastic bag under it. That way it won’t hit the wall and you can wipe the acrylic and toss the trash bag when you clean her cage. Just don’t let her chew it.

i have some of the cat litter box bag things that im going to try putting underneith, (making sure she cant chew it) i dont have to worry about her chewing much though she got ahold of a peice of plastic somehow last night and she didnt chew it at all…. thats happend a few times, but i wont go putting it in plain sight, not worth the risks and ill try putting card board around the back… do you think that will help for now???
