I was just wondering if anyone had any handy tips on stopping a rabbit from peeing on the sofa.  It’s happened twice this weekend and both times Pepper waited until I left the room to do it.

Pepper is trying to claim the sofa, it happens on beds as well. I can’t remember why my bunnies stopped doing it, we just banned them from the sofa and let the sofa be a privilage when we were actually sitting on it. Now they go up and down any time but dont pee on it.

It’s hard to check though if Pepper’s being sly and waiting until your out of the room!

Edited: I remember! We had the lounge blocked off until Charlie was fully litter trained and used to the area. We had quite a few little accidents before we blocked off the lounge. Then we let him into the lounge when ever we were there and popped him back in his other eara after. The prob was that we had a NIC fence running the entire width of our apartment for about 2 months.

oo the sofa peeing – my bunnies did that to my bed all the time. The reason that they really like to pee there is because it smells so much like you, and like Cassi&Charlie mentioned, they are trying to “claim” the sofa.

For me, the best thing to help keep the buns from peeing on the sofa was putting a clear shower curtain liner over the bed (at my lowest point I was actually sleeping with a shower curtain liner over my sheets…) You don’t have to keep it on there all the time, just the times when you are not able to supervise the bunnies.

Ah yes how annoying.  I think I am well known here for plastic bags. When we moved Cotton did the couch thing for about 2 months. I ended up putting a big sized garbage bag on the 2 cushions he kept peeing on.  Eventualy he stopped.  I was able to unzip the cusion covers and wash them too. He peed on them anyways.  So I put the garbage bags on the cushions. Looked funny but  well thats ok as long as the couch stayed dry.   Shower curtains too that works.

My bed I haven’t let them on there in ages. My bed is high off the floor I have 2 box springs and a mattress plus the bedframe is taller than usual. I am afraid they may fall off the bed and get hurt. Otherwise I would share the bed with them. If they wouldn’t pee on it.

I put cotton and Ruby on the bed with me the other day and Cotton about had a fit.  Hubby was on it and he doesnt’ like hubby at all. So b4 he jumped off and hurt himself I took him back to his living room. ruby was fine but still I removed her from it too.

I am veeery careful up there in that bed in the sky.  I have a chair to climb in to it with.  My friend had a similar set up too.  I spent the nite at her house a few times  ( we laughed all nite)  Her bed was way up in the air too.

You know with my back it helps being that high when I make the bed.  I wouldn’t mind it lower down now. I am over being way up there. Hubby likes it though. Probably cause the buns can’t get up there hehe.

If someone would jump in the bed you would hit your head.   Hey it does make changing the lightbulb a whole lot easier.
