        Hi,

I’m new to the site and have a little 10 month old female Holland Lop named Chloe.  Ever since we got her (when she was two months old) she’s been perfect with her litter box and never peed outside of it, that is until recently.  The minute I add new litter, she digs all of it right out (which of course I would see as normal but she has never exhibited such behavior before) and whenever I let her out of her cage to run around, she jumps right on the bed and pees.  She does this no where else, just the bed where I let her jump up and pet her (and of course where it is the most annoying to clean up).

Could this be her marking her territory (which she does all the time with droppings) or might it be some other problem (I heard that bladder infections could also cause such problems)?  I was thinking it was just hormones working in overdrive since she’s unspayed.  I’m getting her spayed in a couple of weeks, will that maybe help/fix this behavior?

        Thanks,

        Rob

yes! spaying will help! try getting a cat litter box with a hook on edge so she doesn’t did the litter all over. i would just block of your bed area for now until you spay her.

The bed will strongly smell of you, and not her, so she is likely having the urge to mark it as hers. Spaying will help, and some people have tried putting a shower curtain or tarp ont eh bed when bunnies are out to stop the mess from soaking in. A litter box up on the bed when its play time may also help.

Spay her and her litter habits will improve. However, rabbits like to pee on soft surfaces, and digging is related to peeing. Many animals dig up the spots where they are going to pee, so your bed may always be fair game as it can be dug at.

I don’t have a solution or suggestion as I am going through similar problems but good luck!!! I do agree with what everyone has said though.

Thanks a lot everyone, I will definetly try some of the suggestions and spay her as soon as I can.  Hope it all helps, I miss being able to pet her without being afraid of dirty bed sheets.

Just an extra note. It can take about a month for the hormones to die down after surgery. (But like others have mentioned, beds though can still be places for even altered bunnies to pee on. Boooo! So you may still have to always do other things to prevent that.

Keep us updated with how things are going with her spay.
