This morning was the first time my bunny peed outside of his cage in the week I’ve had him. The pee I expected, what shocked me was that he made sure to cross the bed to where I was sitting, nuzzle up his butt next to my leg as close as he could and let loos on me! Is he marking his territory? Or did I make him mad? Please help!

Sounds more like marking territory or trying to show you he’s the boss rabbit.

I’ve never heard of an angry rabbit just peeing on their owners for fun

When / if he’s six months old you should definitely get him neutered since it will help with spraying and any agressive behaviors and is better for his health

If he’s already fixed though I’d take him to the vet to see if he’s having some sort of bladder issue he’s trying to tell you about.

Sounds like he’s still young though so my best guess is showing his dominance over you

Rabbits peeing on the bed is a common problem unfortunately! They love to pee on soft things, and beds smell strongly of humans, which triggers their marking instincts. Many fixed, adult rabbits will pee on the bed. However, as Vincent says if he is not fixed that would certainly help!

To deal with the pee – clean it up with vinegar and water to neutralize the odor. You want to make sure the bed doesn’t still smell like him, in case he mistakes it for a new litter box Thor peed on our couch once (she is a fixed female), and after we cleaned it up she never tried peeing there again. However, it is more common for this to become a recurring habit. If he keeps peeing on the bed, you can place a shower curtain over the sheets to make it less appealing to pee on and cleanup easier.

I have a similar problem where Holland Lop hops up on me and pees on my lap. Sometimes I think it is because he doesn’t want to cross the kitchen floor to get back to his hutch (litterbox, bathroom). Other times I think its to tell me something, but I have not clue what that something would be.

I think he pees on things to spite me sometimes. For instance, last night, I groomed him and he was not very impressed. Although I think he liked it, it was a new experience for him and not entirely on his terms. I should mention he is neutered and about 4.5 months old. Right after this, he left the room we were in and went to a boot tray we keep by the front door. I had just broke him of peeing in it and he was doing excellent about leaving it alone. Normally I wouldn’t have followed him, but was going to put away some of the grooming supplies. That’s when I saw him hop over and use the (off limits) boot tray. He knew I could see him, but that was him showing me who was in charge I think. Bunny talk for, “you can’t just groom me buddy…I do what I want.”

I put him right in his hutch. Playtime was over. I will say that limiting playtime does seem to curb his behavior. I think most owners would see the same results. Although he is still kinda young which may attribute the crime and punishment. Teenagers…

Just wish I could figure out why he pees on ME!!!
