        Hi,

I wondered if anyone else has had any issues with peeing during bonding sessions?

My foster Whiskey cannot help but pee on my female when he gets excited. It seems to happen when he’s hopping either away or towards her. He seems to be really enjoying himself but just can’t help but spray her (and me) while he’s running and hopping during his dates. She tolerates it well but it is really messy.

I wonder if this is some residual hormones from his neutering which would’ve been before Christmas or if maybe he has a pee pee problem.

         Any thoughts about this?

         Thanks!

          Welcome to BB!

When was he neutered? Is she spayed? It can take 4-6 weeks for hormones to dissipate after a spay/neuter. Generally it’s recommended that you wait until that time is up before bonding. If she is not spayed there is an additional worry as he can still impregnate her for a month after his neuter (still will have viable sperm).

Hi, thanks! And yes, she is spayed. I would not let that happen!!

He was neutered a few weeks before I began fostering him which was Dec. 21st. I waited to introduce them until last week thinking that the hormones were done but maybe there was still some residual.

Oddly since I posted this, last night they had a date with very little pee and now today they’ve been together effortlessly all day (with me on couch in pen) and again no wild pee parties from him. Maybe he was just on the tail end of clearing out the hormones and that was what was going on?

Anyway, just wondered if anyone else had any similar situations.

Usually hormones fluctuate during that time so things can go from normal to crazy to normal to crazy. Lol. I was on the hormone roller coaster with my younger bunnies too.

It sounds like he’s on the tail end of the whole 4-6 weeks things so hopefully he’ll balance out in the next few weeks.

I hope so! Good to know.

He did do a little doodle tonight b/c they’ve been together all day long. She is kind in tolerating his junk! I think this bonding deal is done, they’ve been good together since 10am this morning. I wish he would groom her though, she wants it so much!

Should I be worried about something more if it continues?

                 Thanks for feedback.

I couldn’t help but notice you said Foster, you are planning on keeping him right??

You can try the banana trick! Rub some banana on her head and see if he’ll lick it off. Simple trick that sometimes works!

Yes, planning on keeping him. He needed a home for the holidays and I was willing.

Just wanted to make sure they bonded. It seems now they have! I haven’t tried the banana trick but will. She’s pretty easy, let’s him eat hay in box while nuzzling underneath his nose for smooshing! Love how she gets her needs met.

Nonetheless, will be using fruity inspiration soon!

                     Thanks!

K Rose I thought of your thread last night. I have been trying to bond my 2 rabbits for awhile now. I am using a box and I put my male in first last night and while I was getting my female my male peed in the box. This hasn’t happened before during my sessions. my husband said he thought maybe he was marking his territory making the box his. Do you all think that might have something to do with it? I plan to use something else my next session.

Sorry for the confusion. Red Door Animal Shelter wanted him to have a home for the holidays so I “fostered” him while also attempting to bond him to Saki in the event I could then adopt him. So yes, keep him for his lifetime! My last rabbit, Buca lived to be over 10!

They are now bonded but I am still keeping an eye on his pee incidents which has come way down. I really think it might be residual hormones.

                            Hi Sindriona,

Yes it does sound like he was marking his terrritory and I think this kind of peeing is more normal in bonding sessions. My girl, Saki peed in Whiskey’s pen when I first introduced them and she is normally a very clean girl. They should get used each others company and that should stop.

My situation was a little different (bizarre) in that he was peeing on her and anything else in the vacinity while hopping sideways. So it was like a side-spray. Think it was hormones left in his system from his neutering.

Good luck with your bonding. I did at least one date a day (sometimes 2) for anywhere from 1/2 hour to 2 hours and they bonded within less than a week but my previous bunny wouldn’t accept a companion! Every bun is different.
