Hey guys, recently I switched to using pee pads in my rabbit’s grated litter pan. This helps control my asthma as all the other litters gave me asthma attacks. The problem now is, they stink! I read that with urine, sometimes the smell isn’t immediate and only once it begins to decompose. It smells really bad, especially as we are having heat waves and the house gets a little hot. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any good products to control this? I know i could take it out to the outside bin every time, but i change these pads twice a day and it’s not feasible for me, as going outside is really difficult for me at the moment because of my health situation. is there any sort of special bin you have experience with that helps keep these odors in? just thought ssomeone might have dealt with this and know a solution! i was looking at diaper pales! but those things require you to buy these special bags for them it seems haha

Adding a tiny bit of apple cider vinegar into your rabbit’s water source can help nullify that urine’s smell generally.

Also, unsure if you’re using reusable pads or not, but if you are (which I recommend to reduce trash production), you can keep soiled ones in a cloth-diaper laundry bag, as you mention. I’ve had one for almost 3 years now since I purchased it for the towels I use to wipe my rabbits’ litter boxes. It is “Planet Wise” brand and I always chuck it in the washer/dryer for easy cleaning, with the used towels (just ordinary hand towels). I chose whatever brand was most available to me at the time, so in terms of Planet Wise’s production, eco-friendly practices, etc., I cannot vouch for… but the laundry bag has worked and I don’t smell anything unless I open up the bag to put more towels in it.

What about just a 5 gal bucket with a lid?

Hey guys, thank you. Sadly I do not have a washer or dryer and wash my stuff by hand. But I wonder if there’s a disposable version of these bags that you’re talking about. I am going to look in to it. I know that’s not very good for the environment but my only option at the moment!

DanaNM – now that I think about it, this might just work. It would be a good size too. Looking in to this!

Thank you both, I think I have some ideas to start looking now! This forum is so helpful 🙂
