I have two rabbits that are very twitchy when getting their nails cut. I’ve been considering the Pedi Paws since they (the rabbits) are so unpredictable. Has anyone used it on their rabbits? The reviews online haven’t been too great for dogs but I’m wondering if the lower power would be just right for rabs. Reviews, opinoins, and experiences would be greatly appreciated!

        Thanks!

We actually had a thread on this not to long ago. Here’s the link~ https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/forumid/2/postid/71590/view/topic/Default.aspx

If the link doesn’t work for some reason, the thread is on page 3 in the Q&A section. From what I hear, the Pedi Paws got a thumbs up!

Ask Scarlet Rose!  She’s the one that tried it first and loves it.  Hopefully she will respond.

I have and I’m here! The thing with the Pedi Paws is that it does take practice and it can and will take too much off if you are not careful. It is a lot quieter than I had anticipated, however I would not use it to trim a lot off. My two did like it because they stayed upright and were not phased by it, even my most high-strung rabbit, Daffodil was not phased by it. It will take longer to do the nails however than a quick snip with regular nail trimmers. I would really recommend that it be used to smooth the nail after cutting. It works great in that respect and it will not scratch your arm or snag on carpet fibers. Why do your rabbits get twitchy? Is it because they are on their back when you are doing it? What method do you use?

Ah, sorry, I did a search for this topic but I don’t think that thread showed up…or was a few pages into the search. Here’s the method I use: My husband and I take a rabbit onto some tile, so they can’t get traction to run off. Then one of us holds the bunny and the other trims the nail on each foot. They’re twitchy in that they’ll seem calm then suddenly try to kick out. Its very hard to predict and we’re slow at it since we’re afraid (really afraid ) of cutting the quick. Even though we’ve never cut into it they get agitated if they even see or hear the clippers. Also, our second rabbit has a real loathing of grooming and will bite the floor-or hands- in frustration. She’ll still eat treats during the process so I don’t think she’s terrified, just grumpy. We adopted her when she was five so we don’t really know her past.

I think I’ll give pedi paws a chance, especially since I have a coupon.

Not to worry.   I do like it, but it just takes a bit of time.  You can still expose the quick and get a little bleeding but not a gusher like you would from using the nail clippers.  I foung this out through experimenting and definate check the nail with a flashlight, and I know this sounds silly, mark where the quick is with a permanent marker or pen, then you know while you are doing it, where it is and you don’t have to keep shining the flashlight through it to see where you are with it.

Here is the prior discussion in case you want to read it (I put it in our FAQ section):
