I wonder how can rabbit eat parsley. It’s so smelly and not nice.I hate the smell.
Bunnies like a lot of strong smelling herbs. Personally I love parsley, but I hate cilantro, yet lots of bunnies love it!
I’m with you, I don’t like eating any of the parselys or cilantros, but the bunnies love it, especially the cilantro. The room really has a funky smell when they’re all munching down on that.
I love parsley! They do like the more fragrant vegetables.
I am a lover of all herbs! Even though parsley and some other herbs smell, I’d rather the cage smell of herbs than pee and poop
Elrohwen, I’m with you.
I’m afraid Sammy will never taste cilantro because I can’t get near it.
The only time I’ve ever had pasley is in the dried-chopped version you sprinkle in food , I’ve never tried it with Sunny, and never have smelled it.
One thing that does smell-Mustard Greens.
Parsley is wonderful.. its one of the few natural breath fresheners in nature And bun safe!
parsley is Buster’s favorite! I love her parsley bun breath
Buddie loves parsley, Italian parsley, cilantro, watercress. He also likes turnip greens which also have a bite to them. I like fresh parsely in my chicken noodle soup but not straight, the way he eats it. My vet wants him to have dandelion as soon as they are in season again. In the meantime I imported some dandelion grass from overseas and am waiting for it. My vet also wants him to have carrot top greens which I’ll have to get him some. Bunnies are such gourmet eaters!
Mmmmm, I love Cilantro. The only thing Coco gave the stink eye was Swiss Chard.
Jackson took a while to warm up to mint….but now digs in. They also go through love/hate phases with Dill
I wish I had some of your bunnies … Otto will only eat the blandest veggies (pretty much only lettuce). I’m always buying herbs for cooking and when I don’t use them all, I try to feed them to Otto, but he’s not having any of it 😛 I can’t believe that with a hungry bunny in the house, I still end up throwing away produce sometimes.
lol monkey was like that, refusing veggies.. i just kept at her, shoving food at her face until she got annoyed at it, grabbed it… and discovered its nomminess. can you believe she never liked raisins at one point?
I think parsley is my girls’ favourite (apart from raisins!), which is great ‘cos it’s always available quite cheaply. I live on the edge of prime watercress country as well but havent given it to the bunnies yet. Maybe this weekend.
I reckon mint would be a great one to try, as there’s loads of different types that have great scents, like chocolate peppermint, banana mint, spearmint, pineapple mint etc…
Monkey isnt too fond of mint.. she’ll eat it, but only after all her other stuff is already in her tummy. Moose hasn’t had it yet, I’m still slowly introducing him to stuff
OI! Yuck I wouldn’t touch most of what my bunnies eat And they don’t like many veggies (or can’t have) the ones I like-mush/onions/peppers. I HATE touching cilantro-stinks so bad. And most of it-yelch… hahah so at least we aren’t competing for veggies
Cotton came up to me stuck his face in mine for a kissy and I could smell his little parsley breath. He could probably smell mine too.
MIne like kale and arugula. I can’t stand that stuff eeeeew. They don’t like mustard greens or turnip greens tho. NEither do I.
You want to talk about a smell. Try boiling up some mustard or turnip greens. Peeeeeuuw
i just got MJ a fresh bunch of parsley tonight. he loves it.
along with a fresh bunch of romaine lettuce.
the only thing he hasn’t liked so far has been beet tops. does anybody else’s bun like beet tops? i think he’d turn his nose up at those things if it were the last thing in the world to eat.
k&k – i hate cilantro too! it gives me a headache. needless to say, MJ doesn’t get cilantro very much.
he loves mint, though, and i don’t mind smelling it! =)
I love all herbs… one of the many reasons I love rabbits. I do share a salad with mine now and then… Parsley smells lovely to me. In fact, you can buy parsley-based breath fresheners, at least for dogs.
I think parsley is an “acquired smell”. At first I disliked it but it smells so yummy and fresh to me now. So delicious chopped up in pasta sauce.

For shame, eating the bunny food!
I have to admit, although I love what cilantro does for salsa, I can’t stand the smell when it’s made fresh. That paired with lime juice gives me the worst migraines.
Parsley isn’t so bad…has anyone taken a sniff of brussel sprouts lately? 0_o
I have tried mint and arugula and all that stuff on my bunnies, they will have none of it. Mimzy’s fave greens are parsley (Italian) and carrot tops. But they give him too much calcium, so he leaves the white dust in his box.
Sammy turned up her nose at mint.
I got chicory instead of kale by mistake this week, but she’s eating it also.
I LOVE brussel sprouts! They stink when you cook them, so my parents would never tolerate them in the house. But when I live alone I cook a bag and have it with butter for dinner. Made some last week – Sammy looked VERY interested. I let her taste a raw one last month and she seemed to like it.
(Is this why I am still single, MM?)
Brussel sprouts are just nasty. lol
Monkey loves mint, Moose seems to enjoy his mint/timmy hay, so I should give him some fresh stuff sometime
Yeah, Parsely does smell strong, but my bunnies LOVE it!! It’s a favorite around here. I will have to try cilantro for them, but kinda nervous after reading a few of the posts, lol!
my 2 go nuts for cilantro, its one of Monkey’s favs. She aims for it first when I give her her dinner each day
Next time I smell cilantro (ugh ick pew) I’m going to call it Monkeybreath.
hehehe prepare to be glared at by Monkey! I’ll get some disapproval pics while she has her cilantro one day
How did I miss the brussel sprouts discussion?! I loooove them. So yummy. They can smell a bit bad, but definitely not as bad as cilantro! I don’t mind cilantro cooked in things, but raw it is just too much. And it looks so much like flat parsley that I’m always very careful when shopping – the last thing I want is to throw a handful of cilantro in whatever I’m making for dinner!
Pam, I give chicory all the time, and thought I’d throw in kale because they look similar – maybe Otto would be fooled. No go. Pickiest rabbit ever. I’ve thrown away left over basil, thyme, and sage in the past few weeks because he won’t eat them for me.
I think I must be a really weird person, as I like cilantro plain. My sister got some cilantro for a vegetarian recipe and she chopped up too much so when I was feeding the rabbits the extra, anything that stuck to my fingers I just ate. Mint is the best though. I could eat mint all day. And chives. We have onion and garlic flavored chives growing in the garden. Can rabbits have them? I should go look that up…
Nope. It looks like they can’t, or at least shouldn’t. Maybe chives should be added to the list of ‘veggies to avoid’?
I know, we have wild chives growing here in summer and I was disappointed to find bunnies can’t eat them. But I enjoy them very much.
lolz @ Pam…I think I’ll stand on the fifth there, dear.
Funny, I do not care for the sprouts, since my dad used to make them (and make me eat them-blech!) quite often. However, if a nice steamer of cabbage is put on to go with some corned beef, I’ll gobble that right down. (Admittedly, my father’s use of a pressure cooker scared the heck out of me, so I was grateful for a meal instead of a catastrophe in the kitchen.)
Mmmmm….and St. Patty’s Day isn’t far off…nomnomnom!
This discussion is mouth-watering for me and my rabbits.
Brussel Sprouts – Worse Vegetable EVER!!!! Ugh… just thinking about those evil little green balls! My mom loves them so she made them all the time when I was a kid. My dad hated them too so he made a rule…when Mom made them we only had to force down one. Now I have a rule: they aren’t allowed in the house!!!!
I like your rule LPT. I think I shall make that one of mine too. hehe
Oh… Monkey, the little, well, Monkey, nabbed some of my popsicle last night… silly baby. Was sitting ont he couch with it and she zooms up sniffs, bites, runs off hehehe
Monkey gets brain freeze…
Her little lips must have gotten quite chilly
So maybe I only like brussel sprouts because I was never fed them as a kid? My mom made tons of veggies, but never brussel sprouts for some reason (even though she likes them). I didn’t try them until fairly recently and now I love them! They’re definitely for more “mature” taste buds – I can’t really see anyone under the age of 12 liking them and I’m sure I would’ve hated them as a kid.
Lol @ Monkey eating a popsicle. Did she run around on a suger high after that?
She always runs around like she’s on a sugar high. She’s a mini bundle of energy, she could power a city lol.
My hubby used to get so grossed out when I’d feed the kids (as babies) sweet potatoes. He hates them. Of course, now he has pancreas problems, so maybe he should’ve eaten more of those as a kid.
I get ONE sweet potato to bake for myself every Thanksgiving and I get heck for days afterwards about how awful it made the house smell! >.<
Poor rinnono, we must be overwhelming you with all this vegetable banter.
Making me hungry.
I also love sweet potatoes. Someone once told me that it’s a taste for certain families of vegetables – like I like the cabbages but not the peppers.
When I was very, very little I LOVED my Dad’s cooked spinach. Otherwise I only ate bland food, like macaroni and butter. Not recommended for bunnies, btw.
mmm macaroni….
I must admit, I like angel hair pasta with only butter on it sometimes lol.
OMG you guys…my favorite snack after school was always a mixing bowl size portion of spaghetti drenched in Fleischman’s margarine. 0_0
Okay, I am officially creeped out…lol! ^_^
Um, rinnono, did you have any update on your bunny?
Really we need to stop hijacking this thread, guys.
