        Salmonella Scare Sparks Parsley Recall
        Sunday, September 13, 2009

Muranaka Farm Inc. is recalling 1,005 cases of parsley distributed in 10 states because it may be contaminated with salmonella.

The Moorpark, Calif., company says it’s voluntarily recalling cases of 60-count fresh bunched parsley, lot code 0023909, after sampling conducted in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration showed bacteria.

Thirty cases of the parsley were distributed in Arizona; 574 were distributed in California; 35 in Colorado; 60 in Florida; three in Iowa; one in Illinois; seven in Missouri; five in Tennessee; 278 in Texas; and 12 in Wisconsin.

Thanks for the info… Texas is in there and I just bought some. Ill have to take a look and see if its that code….. on second thought I think I’ll just toss it out anyway. They have enough other greens to tide them over until the parsley is safe again!
              Thanks so much!!!

I’ve called the Save On Foods in edmonton here just to make sure and they use only BC grown parsley so Gizmo doesnt need to have a panic attack!

Although Safeway said they get a mix from canada and the us and some may be involved in the recall! (which means it could spread to others that wouldn’t have a record of being involved in recall)

So stay away from safeway! they had no idea of a recall what-so-ever.

I may hold off on buying more though, but he should be good with the little he has now as it maybe hasn’t reached canada too badly yet.

Don’t feel bad….my bunny Mr. Bean doesn’t like curly parsley, but loves the flat leaf italian parsley. Go figure…

My bunny didn’t like parsley for many months after we got him…but over time has started to like it more. He’ll pick lettuce or radish leaves over it any day, though.

mine love parsley.   I dont ‘know which they like more as I combine parsley and cilantro in the same bag  I need to keep them seperate so I know which one they are ignoring after 3 days

Cuz after 3 days they ignore one kind and chow on the other.  I hope I am making sense here.

Uh-oh, mine loooove their parsley and I just gave them some a couple days ago! They all seem fine for the time being though – I’ll have to check the other parsley in my fridge.

Wow.. Thanks god I grow over 50 parsley in my big pot.
You can grow your own parsley to save your money.

Suppose you buy 2ish dollars a week for parsley.
                                    8 dollars for one month
                                    48 dollars for 6 months
96 dollars for one year (this isn’t include tax so if you want to include tax then it will cost over 100 dollars for one year)

When my parsley grew tall enough, I cut all parsley and put them in refrigerator. You might think it will take forever to grow again but all of my parsley grew fast less than a week!
I cut over 50 parsley once a week.
