Does anyone feed Parlsey on a daily basis? I feed Parsley and Romaine daily as well as usually a third veggie because Parlsey and Romaine have Vitamin A and my buns love them. I recently read Parsley should be fed sparingly because it can cause bladder problems. What are your thoughts on this? I know Binky Bunny and House Rabbit veggie list does not say to limit this veggie.

I feed my buns romaine lettuce, parsley and cilantro on a regular basis (everyday) and I’ve had no problems and they love it. I would like to hear thoughts as well on this.

wow, that was a good article. Then I backed up and spent the lunch hour reading about bladder sludge and dental care in the rest of the articles. I’ll have to book mark that site,

                thanks, Kathy

Yes I feed parsley and romaine daily as well as some other greens. No problems whatsoever.

My buns “require” italian parsley on a daily basis otherwise I get the stink eye. lol

In addition to that we always rotate thru cilantro, romaine, brussel sprouts and endive

My bun would eat nothing but parsley (Italian) and carrot tops if I let him, but he’s showing signs of sludge from that so I have to limit him.
The Romaine seems to not be a problem, though.

This is taken from that article written by the vet that I posted – it’s an excellent article and you should all read it because bladder sludge is more complex than just the veggies you give your rabbits and it explains it very well:

Feed large amounts of fresh leafy greens – Fresh leafy greens are not only an excellent source of fluid for the rabbit (to keep the urine dilute) but also contain a variety of nutrients (including vitamin C) and fiber (for the digestive tract). Use dark leafy greens that are richer in nutrients than the pale green types. Feed a minimum of three different types of greens daily, don’t stick to just one type. Examples of greens to feed include kale, mustard greens, dandelion greens, parsley, cilantro, chard, beet tops, carrot tops, raspberry leaves, broccoli leaves, and Romaine lettuce

As mentioned previously, although the calcium content of dark leafy greens is higher than some other foods, it is not all digestible and doesn’t approach the level of commercial pellets or alfalfa hay. NEVER attempt to remove all calcium sources from a rabbit’s diet or problems with abnormally low calcium blood levels, such as bone, dental and muscle disease can occur.

We do not consider feeding dark leafy greens a part of the problem causing urinary calculi and in fact we consider these foods to be an essential part of a healthy rabbit diet.

Hmm that is very interesting. I got mustard greens the other day, none of my critters would touch it! Dunno why, they ate it before. Odd. They had kale like a week ago,but i dont give them much because last time I noticed chalky type pee. They love dandelion greens for sure! Green chard is a hit,but not the red. Different taste i guess? The lettuce mine get is usually romaine, but I also get a spring mix. Other times i get those bags of salad cause they are always on sale. Also to give my babies a variety so they dont get bored eating the same thing all the time. Three types? Does it count if its a salad mix with different types of lettuces lol? They get that then I add in some herb of some sort. Different thing every night. Spoiled critters i tell ya.

We feed Pepper parsley, romaine and cilantro on a regular basis. We tried kale but she hated it. I haven’t been able to find carrot tops at any of the markets I go to. Do any of you feed them? Where do you get them?

sfkt – I find the carrot tops at my local supermarket, and Cadbury loves them. (So does my horse!) The only problem is that they don’t stay good very long…

I wouldn’t have thought they’d be hard to find, but I’ve been to 4 supermarkets who said the carrots come topless now. Maybe I’ll try some of the higher end organic supermarkets. It would also be fun to grow our own. Maybe we’ll do that .

Farmer’s market is also a great place to score carrot tops too.

Italian parsley is a staple of my bunnys’ diets – they get it at least 3 times a week along with lots of other things, like dill, basil, dandy greens, chard, kale , mint and spring mix.
