        Can bunnies eat fresh papaya?

Yes! Just keep it limited due to the sugar content. Papaya is said to be beneficial because it contains an enzyme that helps hair breakdown in the gut.

Yes, it is very good for them. Fresh papay has enzymes that help break down food particles that bind together hair balls inside the GI tract. Don’t give too much papaya at a time, 1 teaspoon per day, and no seeds.

Yes, and thanks for the reminder. I have been meaning to get some for Sammy.

Mine would not eat fresh papaya- but they will eat it after I dehydrate it.  I give more dried natural fruits to my bunnies than I do fresh anyway- they can have such a little amount that it is cheaper and more convenient to buy an apple- give them their slivers and then dehydrate the rest.  I have done carrots, strawberries, blueberries and bananas this way so far.

Papaya is best offered in small amounts because it is so sugary. However, it is EXCELLENT for breaking down hairballs in their systems, so I would recommend it fairly regularly!
