Hey, I have a bunny named Daisy who is a mini lop about 1.5 years old, was spayed earlier this year. I bought a little bag of ‘Positively Papaya’ at Pet Smart and the ingredients say dehydrated papaya, will this be ok for her and help with hairballs? I used to feed daisy about 2 stalks of celery a day and I gave her Kale one day and she loved it, so then I started giving her kale and celery and eventually she didn’t want any of the celery. Is it ok for her to eat Kale every day? She is prob 4lb or less and I had read somewhere that you shouldn’t be able to feel her backbone when you rub her back but I have always been able to feel it when I rub her back. She appears very healthy and the vet said she was healthy when she was spayed just a curious and worried mom. She is also very active when I let her out of her cage she plays around the house with occasional spouts where she thinks shes in nascar and races around the house, there are times she lays down but it is usually to cool off I think…. any suggestions would be great. Thanks, I can always rely on you all for help

Is there anything else in the papaya you are giving her?  I would suggest the papaya tablets with pineapple that is sold here is the best.  It has no other added ingredients.  Also if you are not giving her anything but kale and celery I would start introducing dark leafy greens immediately.  She should be getting about 2 cups a day of things like romaine, parsley, chard etc.  You can see a complete list under Diet under Bunny Info above.  Celery has vitually no nutrition and the stringy part is not good for them.  Kale is high in calcium and my vet told me that was not a veggie I should give my rabbit.  Kale is ok but I certainly would not give it daily.  It can also cause gas. Make sure to introduce each new veggie carefully. I give Edson baby organic greens, parsley, mint, dill and romaine.

I wouldn’t worry about her weight if the vet said it was fine. I think you should/can feel their backbones no matter what, it’s just the extent to which you can feel it in a skinny vs. normal rabbit.

Kale is definitely a treat!! Start adding Romaine, parsley etc.etc. Nicer on the wallet too, Kale’s a bit pricey. Be prepared for rejection, Kale is pretty awesome to bunnies so she may reject other things at first

I know the kind of papaya you bought, it’s dried -and like orange/yellow, in a blue bag, pricey? Anyways dehydrated papaya should be fine, but the papaya tablets are great because they are low sugar and high fibre-and they just go bonkers for them!
