These are new at my pestore and I bought some since they were out of my usual treats (SunSeed Papaya). I”m usually very leery to give anything but fresh fruit as a treat but it’s nice to have treats on hand that don’t spoil like produce. They have 4 flavours: Veggie, Timothy, Strawberry and Banana. Has anyone tried these treats?

The Timothy and Veggie ones I’m sure my guys would love but they have some not so healthy ingredients like wheat and stuff in them. I bought the banana which is pretty much a ripoff because they are basically just dried banana chips and they were $5.49. Big sucess with the buns though.

I’m very fussy about the treats I buy. Adding something new is just another reason to be worried about gas/statis isssues. What sort of commercial treats do you use?

I have not tried them yet but they are in the BB store. I have been wanting to get them for my trio!

I think BB included them as her free gift this month. My bag of hay didn’t seem to have any of the strawberry ones, but I did have some heart shaped cookies – I’m assuming those are the timothy ones? Otto loved them!

My vet actually recommended these treats a few weeks ago – she loves anything Oxbow.

I just saw the banana recently and tried them, and I totally agree that it’s a ripoff. I was hoping it might be banana flavored cookies made of ground hay, but it was just a bag of gooey sort of dried banana pieces. I have better fresh bananas here that I can give her. I also didn’t care for the strawberry myself because the smell was really strong.

So am sticking with the veggie and any hay related treats from Oxbow. Two huge hits with Sammy though:
              Apple Pie Cookie Smacks Treats
Apple Cinnamon Heart Rabbit Treats from Fun4Bunnies.com

I have to admit, I think I eat more of the strawberry and banana snacks than my bunnies do. 0_o They smell and taste better than the stuff made for people.
But Mimzy is a big fan of the timothy treats by oxbow…too much so. And Fiver and Pip like the veggie treats.
Anything in excess is going to cause tummy trouble. I had to cut out all treats for all bunnies during Mimz & Fiver’s recent stomach problems and after a while they didn’t seem to miss them. I know Bindi tends to have tum trouble, so I wouldn’t recommend anything like that for him.

Mimzy has about given up banana (fresh) since I started trying to hide his probiotic in them. I can’t believe he can taste the powder in his slice, I hide it really well.

My buns’ tails twitch for the strawberry. I think they are a bit on the pricey side for the amount you get, I don’t know if you can get all-natural dried fruit for a better price, you may prefer doing it that way…

Beka, there is another brand that makes all natural dried fruit for pets and they give you a decent amount. I wish I could remember the name, but they’re sold in a light green bag. I tried getting stuff from the grocery store, and it’s organic and natural, but has some sugar added. I’m assuming the sugar is only on the outside of the pieces of papaya? Either way, I won’t get them again and will go back to the pet store brand that is pure fruit, nothing else.

You can also try your own fruit with a couple of box fans. I’ve seen Alton Brown do it on his tv show, but it seems like too much work for me 😛

I like the Timothy and Barley treats for my buns as they are more like “cookies”.  The banana and strawberry are just freeze dried fruit.  If you have a dehydrator you can make something similiar- though it will not be the same texture since it is dehydrated and not freeze dried.

I have done strawberry, banana, papaya, etc in the past.  I have parrots also- and made some stuff for them, me and the bunnies- otherwise it does not seem worth the effort/electricity to make a small batch of stuff.

I have given Sophie these treats. She goes crazy for them every time (the smell is pretty strong though). Her vet recommends these because they are Oxbow.

I didn’t know this, but my vet said that apparently Oxbow people do an extensive research on their products before releasing them to our furry creatures.

They’re a little more pricey here, I live in Alberta and I get them here for about $6.45.

Another newer thing from Oxbow is these Organic Barley Biscuits, they’re a little less expensive and are timothy hay based, and once again a success with my bun.

Yes, the Barley buscuits were the ones I tried and couldn’t remember the name of. Sammy really likes those too.
I’m really glad there’s someone (Oxbow) in the business of making healthy food for bunnies in a thoroughly researched way.

I love that Oxbow along with a few other select companies are making products that are good for the bunnies and rely on the nutrition aspect to make their sales- unlike some of the larger companies that sell products that are geared towards the person- not the rabbit.  And they as so misleading- making it sound like a healthy treat or food, etc- when clearly exotic vets and house rabbit experts do NOT agree with adding sunflower seeds, yogurt, sugar, etc.  But it is the same way in the dog industy too- I will NOT feed my dogs “those bacon dog treats” or anything like them as they are loaded with sugar, food coloring, extra fat and preservatives!

I like Oxbow. I use their hay, and I plan to switch my rabbit to their pellets after my bunny becomes an adult.

I got the strawberry treats in the mail yesterday. My bunny just sniffed it and ran away, but when I woke up this morning, the treats were gone.. LOL

                                I absolutely agree with you!

You could go to any petstore and find the shelves full of food, treats, etc. that are not good for our animals to have. But they sell them because some owners are truly unaware of how unhealthy these items are, which is sometimes not their fault and will buy them from the petstore anyway. I think it sells because it looks appealing to pet owners.

I wish our petstore carried more Oxbow brand. We have mainly Kaytee. I prefer Oxbow by far

I agree with everyone’s thoughts on Oxbow. Our buns have been on Oxbow brand exclusively for a long time (Bunny Basics T pellets and timothy or orchard hay) and I feel they have great products. It’s really nice that our local stores carry the products and they are able to order the bulk boxes of hay for us so we can save some money. It’s a little pricier, but I think that since the buns get such a limited amount of pellets, it’s fine. We’re not going for quantity, but quality.

OHHHH! BOOO! Sorry about that! There should have been 3-5 little slivers of strawberry in there! They were pretty buried, but if we missed yours, so sorry. If you order again, put in the comments section that you didn’t get the strawberries in your last surprise gift, and we’ll be sure to add a little sample in your order.
