I have been feeding my 5 month old rabbit the Oxbow young rabbit pellets since I got him in October and we’re now almost done with this bag. Can I switch him over to the adult pellets once we’re done (in the next few days) or is he too young? If I keep him on the young pellets, do I just decrease the amount once he’s around 7 months? Just want to make sure we’re not wasting any pellets.. not sure if my local rescue takes opened bags but I could ask them anyways.

Also after looking at the Oxbow website I see that they have different options.. essentials, garden select, organic bounty, simple harvest. Guess I never really paid attention to the type since my dad just buys the essentials one for me. Is there one that’s better than the rest or can I stick with the essentials pellets?

If he’s a small breed then it would be OK to start switching now. You would want to transition though, not just hop to the adult formula once the junior formula is used up. It might be best to buy a new bag of junior pellets and then use that in the transition to adult.

Any of the adult formulas are fine. Most people stick to the essentials.

Thank you!! He’s a dutch, about 3 lbs now I think. I’ll just buy a smaller bag of the junior pellets and transition him. I appreciate your help!

Sounds like a good plan! After you transition, just keep an eye on his body condition (I usually just feel my bunnies LOL). If he seems thin he might need a larger amount of pellets while he continues to grow a bit.
