› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Oxbow Announces New Treats and Papaya Supplement!
Have people seen this yet? I check the oxbow site periodically to see if they have the new papaya treats out. They do! And some new treat products! I’m sure BB is already all over this but I’m so excited!

awesome! i had not heard they were finally coming out! the buns will be so pleased! i’m intrigued by that new Simple Treat thing…
oh great. but the new organic pellets for buns ohh so expensive. But I bet buns just love it.
Interesing, although some of those “simple rewards” treats sound just like freeze-dried fruit which I can buy (probably for a lot less than what they will sell it for). I really wonder how much teh papaya treats differ from what they had before though. In looking at my old container, it sounds like they are omitting the food coloring, stearic acid, and microcrystalline cellulose. But I’ll know for sure when I get the new stuff.
BT, I’ve bought the organic Oxbow pellets…they ARE nice, however, currently the only one who will eat it (well the only one who can anyway) is Fiver. Mimzy turns his nose up at them and, sadly, even though she likes them Pip still cannot eat pellets because they give her poopy butt/excess cecals.
I had so hoped she could enjoy the organic ones. Alas, there must be something in the binders that doesn’t agree with her tummy.
Good to hear about the new Papaya Tabs, though. My buns have REALLY been missing those.
May I also recommend the Oxbow Barley Biscuits? Pip and Fiver go bonkers for them! ^_^ And a nice healthy treat too!
yeah I’m not sure about the other treats either…I make my own crunchy treats, and can add whatever I like and I know its healthy. I blend stuff like bananas, parsley, timothy hay, rolled oats, and carrots and water in a food processor. I could make strawberry too. I make it into a paste, roll it out and cut it into squares. The key is to bake them on low for several hours, to keep them from molding or going bad. My bunnies LOVE them, and they are way cheaper than oxbow.
the papaya tablets though I dont know if I could live without.
The organic food does sound nice, but I must draw the line somewhere on cost! I stick with oxbow’s regular food. my bunnies already eat better than I do
at least I buy them organic veggies.
Hmm making your own treats and bakign them. I really should try that.
Yes treats. Sometimes I jsut give them a piece of my fruit I am eating. Cotton is in his house he smells me eating pear or something he runs over and begs.
After I give him a little if he still bets I finish eating at the table. Yes a 3lb4oz bunny runs the house.
Proud to be a bunny slave anyways.
The oxbow papaya I don’t dare run out of. Cotton would continue to climb over me and around me and if not found I would get a horrible bunny butt AND stink eye.
You know at petsmart here 5 lb basic 5 is 12.99 on fosters n smith I noticed yesterday 10 lb is 10.99 I guess it IS worth paying S&H and ordering it from there. Unless I saw it wrong.
I have not made an pet cookies in awhile- I made dog/parrot cookies all the time. The best recipe I found calls for baking them and turning the oven off and leaving them in the oven overnight or for at least a couple of hours- it removes the excess moisture so the cookies can be stored for a long time without molding or going bad.
I don’t think it would be hard to make bunny cookies- healthy ones. All you need is a “dough” that you can bake- it does not matter what the texture of the dough is or if it spreads when baked, if you can roll it out, etc (not like human baked goodies).
When I made parrot cookies I would soak some parrot pellets in warm water for a couple of hours to create a “dough” base and I would thrwo stuff in the food processor- carrots, apples to add in- I usually added oat flakes too.
I have looked at the ingredients of the American Pet Diner bunny cookies that I have gotten- and most of the more unusual stuff used like Rye flour and wheat germ is available at most grocery stores or health food stores.
Maybe when I get thru the 20# box of organic/natural dog biscuits I won at a dog event this summer, I will make some cookies that the dogs, parrots and bunnies can share. (The cats are too snotty to consider eating any cookie I could ever make them). Though it was ironic that these cookies are meat free and I was breaking the larger squares into 2-3 pieces to fill the dog cookie jar- Cotton came up and would steal a piece, eat a nibble, and then grab another piece- and the dogs where waiting for her to grab another so they could eat the one that she left.

While I would not consider these ideal for bunnies (and I have not given them since)- they are probably better than most of the “commercial” rabbit treats that are sold (with yogurt, sunflower seeds, etc).
That is funny you shoudl mention bunny cookies. I make my own as well.
Here are some recipes (including my own). I know this is a little OT from the topic (please forgive me).

I wonder how the pricing will be on the freeze dried fruits. I know the stuff from the health food store “Just Bananas” “Just Strawberries”, etc is EXPENSIVE. Of course if they package in a cute package- how can we resist buying for the buns?
I have dehydrated blueberries and strawberries and my buns liked them. My bunnies don’t seem to like banana- they few times I have offered fresh banana they won’t eat it.
Oh my gosh!! Phew! My buns have been really missing the papaya tablets as well! (Although apparently they don’t taste that good….who was it who ate one? LOL)
My ears are burning, K&K…. <_< Actually, I think both Binkles and I have tried those things…they are NASTY.
If it’s not Sage Cat who has a handy recipe up her sleeve, it’s Rose! ^_^ Thanks for those links! Honestly, I have bunnies begging for my fruit all the time and I try to keep plenty here for me to eat because of how rotten I feel during winter otherwise. But yeah, it’s hard to turn down those pleading fuzzy faces! 0_o
Yeah I tried a papaya too. Bluck Buns have weird taste buds. I guess so if they like grass and arugula and those papaya tabs.
Or maybe we have weird taste buds. ![]()
