We ended up going to Chicago to visit family and we brought Abby along since we will be here for 10 days.  It was only a 3 &1/2 hour drive and she did wonderfully.  She settled in very quickly too.  Here are my questions.

        1. I noticed a cut on her back.  It’s not deep and about an inch long.  I cleaned it with diluted peroxide and put some triple antibiotic ointment (without pain reliever) on it.  Should I continue to do that a few times a day and just watch it closely?

        2.  Since we’ve been here she has not eating many pellets.  Not even half of what she normally would.  She’s still drinking, going to the bathroom fine, eating hay and scarfing down her veggies.  Should I be concerned about this?  I do have what I need if I need to syringe feed her.

        Thanks for your help!

A bunny will often be off its feed when in a strange place so I’m not particularly concerned about the pellets, especially if she is showing a normal appetite for everything else.

I am a bit more concerned about the cut. I would suggest calling your vet, leaving the number where you can be reached and explaining that this just happened while you are out of town for the next 10 days. Tell her what you have been doing and ask if that is the best course of action, or is there a regimen she could recommend you can do instead. Ask her to let you know what to watch for in case you need to take her to a vet where you are, but if possible, can you continue treating yourself out of town since you don’t know the vets in the area.

The cut will probably heal up on its own. If you’re worried about it, you can clean it with some hydrogen peroxide and a cotton ball. The antibiotic ointment will help a lot too. I’ve gone to the vet for cuts before, and unless there’s an infection or it needs stiches, they really don’t do anything that couldn’t be done at home. Just keep watching it for signs of abscesses or infection.

i have to agree-I know I could wear a shirt that says ‘go to the vet!’-I know i am very prone to that But I agree with fluffy-they don’t do anything you can’t do at home. I would skip peroxide, it’s ‘old school’ and can inhibit healing because it’s said to destroy infection but also healing tissue. I’d put the triple antibiotic on a few more times and keep an eye. You do have to use your judgement-if this is a gash or a puncture, the ointment should not be used as the wound can heal with it in there and abscess; likewise if the wound is deep it could abscess. But if it’s a surface scratch there is really no need to go in and have that seen.

And ditto-so long as hay is being eaten she sounds fine
