How much did you pay for your bun(s) to get spayed/neutered? Cost $360 for us and that was including extra bloodwork…just wondering whats normal.
My specialist rabbit vet charges
male under 6months- $110, male over 6months- $120
female under 6months- $125, female over 6months- $150
At regular vets I called around asking for quotes for a castration and prices included, $170, $107, $85.
This is aussie dollars btw.
Hammers neuter was somewhere around 100. But i dont remember exactly what was included
Are aussie dollars and US dollars pretty comparable?
Hi!
I paid $285 including bloodwork. I called the Massachusetts vets listed on rabbit.org, and they ranged from $150 to $350. I ultimately chose our vet because they were one of the closest (still 30 min away though) that had an available appointment. Our bun was really acting up – his hormone driven antics were escalating.
My vet charges $180 for a spay but that does not include bloodwork and she’s the most reasonably priced in town. The rest are probably up where you are paying.
i did not call around when i was looking for a rabbit vet. mine was the only Cleveland area vet recommended by the HRS, so that was who i went to. the price was $185 incl. pain meds and antibiotics. i declined bloodwork, but i understand you had to do it due to her previous HT issues. the actual procedure (looks at invoice) was 125, anesthesia was 70. for some reason i rec’d a “community service discount” that took $103.64 off my bill. i’m not sure what that was for, but i didn’t probe further b/c it saved me 100 bucks.
how’s she feeling?
I checked out everywhere.
My vet did our spay for over three hundred I believe…No extra bloodwork though.
We are going to be getting a discount for our rabbit shelter and it will still run 129 for neuters, and 189 for spays so it’s quite pricey out here.
CDN dollars ![]()
I paid 45$ us dollars.
we have a spay and nueter clinic that is savvy on spay and nueters only for rabbits. had a great experiance and if i have other buns they will go there as well.
We go to a vet in a rural community, and only paid about $125 or so. That is for our male bun. We don’t pay for the extra blood work though. I think that is a way to up the cost by your vet…. Although I could be wrong.
i’m not a vet, and my rabbit medical knowledge is not as evolved as many of the other forum leaders. the way i understand it is the bloodwork prior to surgery can help the vet determine if there is a higher risk involved with putting a bunny under anesthesia. since allenj1’s Boston had head tilt before, they needed to make sure it was safe for her to undergo surgery. this is also recommended with older buns (over a couple years old) who are going in to be spayed. my bun was spayed at 7 months and had been healthy up to that point, so i declined the bloodwork.
Yeah we did extra bloodwork in case the surgery was too risky. That cost included pain meds and antibiotics to take home too.
Wow, its seems some places do it cheap! I wonder if it was so expensive for us cuz it was a big city??
Boston is doing well by the way! Not eat lots of pellets which is not like her, but enjoying hay and greens! Lots of poops!
i think pellets are usually the last to get going again. as long as she’s eating her other stuff, that’s great!
I paid $80 for Happy’s neuter – this included his pain med but no extra bloodwork. Happy is about 10 mos old and is healthy so I to declined the extra bloodwork. About a year ago I had my sweet Boogie-girl spayed at the same vet’s and I if I remember correctly it was $140 – $150.
$25. I got lucky… the neuter scooter had a vet with some rabbit experience!
That’s about $31 CDN, by the way.
wow you guys got lucky with the cost of your spaying. I have been quoted $836 Cdn for our 2 females at one vet and $636 Cdn at another. They compared the price to that of a cat spay. Sadly I am out of work for the time being so we’re forced to save up for the spaying untl I’m back at work.
^^^wow! it might be beneficial for you to contact vets in surrounding areas.
are you near to KokaneeandKahlua? (sorry, don’t know Canada!)
Let’s see…I paid $90 for Kahlua and $70 for Chloe. Stella & Luna were already spayed when I got them. The cost included their pain meds. I declined the bloodwork. I think it was about $25 extrra.
Well the neuter was 40.00 last year. This year the spay was 100.00 no blood work or meds came home and I asked about the meds too. The vet I used for the spneuter is not our regular vet. Our regular vet is 200-250.
The other vet only does spneuter on buns she doesn’t normall see them otherwise. She knows what she is doing. Her staff said don’t fast the buns. And she mentioned Oxbow Oxbow Oxbow.
Our regular vet I go to for everything else. They are both good vets. I am very confortable with them for my buns needs.
To all you in Canada, I’d be taking a road trip down to the States! Can you even do that? Take animals across the border to see a vet?
I paid $180 for a spay. At the time the Aust dollar was pretty comparable to US. Currently it’s about 60-70 cents to the Us dollar.
Wow…I kinda feel like I got ripped off!!!
But then again this vet was reccommended by HRS and does all the bunny spays/neuters for the Minnesota Humane Society….I guess feeling comfortable with leaving Boston w/ this particular vet was worth the money.
I paid almost $200 for neuter & a spay at my vets is $250. Blood work is almost $100 on top of that. But then, we have a lack of rabbit savvy vets in the area…
Yeah – 2buns2luv, it would definitely be worth a drive up to Edmonton to get a cheaper spay – although the 3 hour trip might be stressful for the bunny – depends on how well she handles car rides. Maybe do some more calling around too – I know there are a lot of vets in Calgary, and a lot of them are overpriced! But hopefully with some persistence you can find a good one. (That’s actually my hometown, I just go to school in the US)
i just yesterday called about 6 places and the highest was $308 + exam before hand which was $60 and then i varried between that an $125 with a pre-exam and actually the place that was $125 seems awsome everyone was so nice in there and when i called they gave me a lot of info even before i scheduled with them the other places just told me the price and that was it….
