  So, I’ve had my long haired Holland Lop, Pluto, for about a year now, and as she has gotten older her fur has been so hard to manage. I brush her everyday and trim the tips pretty often, but her fur just keeps matting super close to her skin. Her fur has the feel of sheep wool, and at this point I don’t even know what to do anymore. I’ve taken her to two different vets before, and the first one was pretty rude to me, telling me I don’t give her enough care, even though I DO brush her on a daily basis and try to keep her fur in check. The second vet (now her permanent vet) was a lot more understanding, but I’m still super embarrassed to take her in because I feel like a terrible bunny mama. On top of the daily brushing and regular trimming, I bought a mat splitting brush to try and help. Do you guys have any tips on how to maintain her fur, and how to get passed judgemental vets? ? I really do try my hardest with her, but nothing seems to work…

  Many buns have issues with long hair. Many times people who have angoras will shave their buns once or every 2/3 months to reduce the hair maintenance and the risk of a blockage from ingesting too much hair. Would you be able to buy a hair trimmer(make them for animals) and try that? Sometimes some hair types are unmanageable

  I have one and it doesn’t cute through her fur very well, but that might be because it’s a low quality trimmer. I’ll run to my local pet shop and get a nicer one. Thank you!

  Your buns hairnis proably pretty fluffy and not straight so it can be hard for clippers to get a good cut. Let me know if those work better!

  does your bun have a regular overcoat, and then a woolly undercoat? Weve had our fuzzy lop for about 2 months now, and luckily his top coat is chocolate and undercoat is white, so we can tell the difference. we try to do do fur maintenance daily but its still tough. we had a dematting tool thats basically a brush with a blade in it, and also we have snipped out his undercoat in areas where its beginning to mat up and then it just pulls out in very easy and is easier to brush. he tolerates my wife grooming him more than me so i leave it up to her. i can try to get some other tips as well. I just know with our guy you can see a definitive fur line where he is losing his undercoat. its like a little mohawk going around his body lol
