Our first bunny!

Long post warning! (and i am posting via mobile so I hope its not all wonky)

Hello! I’m Shelby!

Me and my fiance just got a bun so I decided to join a rabbit forum! (if you know of a better forum, let me know!)
I joined a forum when I got my ferrets years ago and the people were very informative when i was a newbie so here I am!

I dont know much past the basics for rabbits since he was a bit of an impulse buy. (oops!)
We had been discussing adding a new “furbaby”, but we hadn’t decided what yet – rabbit or chinchilla, but when we got to the pet store (for ferret supplies!) he was by himself and so calm and sweet and enjoyed being held that we couldn’t leave without him! It was love at first sight.

From day one (3 days ago!) he was immediately curious about his new surroundings, he wasnt timid at all. Explored every nook and cranny (our second floor is already ferret-proofed, so, aside from cords, we werent worried about him getting into trouble)
He immediately would climb right up into your lap and lick your hands. If you make scratching noises on the comforter, he jumps right up on the bed!(which shocked me that he could jump up on our rather tall bed with ease but never tried to jump out of the pet store case which had much lower sides.
He took to everyone so quickly! He is so sociable.

He runs around and “binkies” all over the place! I imagine he is overjoyed that theres so much space and we dont keep him in the cage much.

He adores the standing fan. He will lay on my bed in front of it for so long, his little ‘mane’ just blowing in the wind. I think he gets annoyed when its oscillating because it goes off of him for a few seconds!

Only thing is, he has no name yet!
Suggestions?

(I am a bit of a Greek and Roman mythology buff so here are current (and past) pet names to give you an idea.)

Spartacus/Sparta (Husky)
Leonidas/Leo (Ferret)
Castalia/Cassie (Ferret)
Calypso (Cat)
Neptune (you guessed it – fish!)
Poseidon (yep, fish!)
Milo (Jack Russell)

So far, I am liking Mercury (Roman mythology), but my fiance likes Ares.
So, names? “First bun” advice? What are your buns names?

Haha… Members here will name your rabbit for you, never fear. It gets quite competitive.

I like the names of your pets. Having that theme should narrow down your choices and make it easier.

I’d be tempted to name him Kyrios. Lol. Not so much based in mythology but could be a good fit for a bunny. They tend to become Lord & Master and we become their Slaves.

Otherwise, something to do with his being a lionhead?

First off, he’s adorable! we have a lion head but his name is not real fluffy.

Is there a better forum? Nope! This is a great forum for bunny advice and sharing some bunlove.

Names…..I like Artemis, Mercury. Zeus maybe? Medusa comes to mind too lol.

Hmmm, first bunny advice. Bunnies are addictive. We started out with 1 four years ago…..now we have 10! So be sure to contain yourself lol. Research is important. Reading up on what’s what is key. But for the most part, you will grow with your bunny. There’s no bunny sin and raisin can’t fix lol.

If you like Roman, maybe you could look at some of the lesser known Roman dieties/mythos?
-Pollux (brother of Caster in constellation Gemini; means “sweet”)
-Vulcan (means “to flash”) goes well with his little black smudges…
-Bacchus (god of wine and intoxication) good for any happy laid-back guy…
-Faunus (lesser god of the wilds and fertility) He is a bunny, after all…
-Messor (lesser god of agriculture/harvest) Let’s face it. He wants your harvest/veggies! lol

I forgot to add our buns names. We have Bruno and Harley, Obie and Hazel, Caesar and Roxie, Potus and Annie, Butternut and Backers. We also have 4 cats – Jack, Dinah, Luca, and Joey. And a hammy named Elvis.

He looks like quicksilver so I think Mercury would be a good name =)
My bunnies’ names are Bam and Yohio.

I have Tilly (the Grand Duchess de Marbourg) and (Lord) Duncan.
Our bridge-bunny is Peter (Cottontail)

Adorable! I really like the name Mercury for him…but I like someone’s suggestion of Vulcan too! All of my bunnies, past and present, have had chocolate names. Gone now are Hershey, Snickers, and Pocky – with us now are Toblerone (Toby) and KitKat. Also, my guinea pigs are Jack, Zero and Dr. Finkelstein (Fink)…and the dog is Loki

This place is the best house rabbit forum I’ve found and I did a lot of looking around. I totally agree that you will grow with your bunny, lol. It’s definitely a “learn as you go” experience.

And yes we like to help name rabbits here. I’m not great with coming up with those types of names lol, but I’m sure somebody might be able to suggest some good ones!

Do you currently only have ferrets and your new rabbit? Or do you have others. I couldn’t really tell from the list which pets you still have.

My bun’s name is Moxie. Which kinda made a theme with my animals which I didn’t even notice ha ha! (Moxie is a soda where I live and my dog’s name is Snickers and that’s a candy bar lol!)

Mine is named Hercules and kind of looks like yours. Maybe we could be twins, lol! If I had that I would name it Mercury because it seems…um…mercurish?

I love Bacchus! Such a cute name. =)

I do like Mercury if I were to choose between that and Ares.

 

My buns are Leopold and Mr. Wooly (or just Wooly).
