This morning Oreo, a 16 month old mini lop would not eat her fruit or her pumpkin this morning.  She doesn’t get a lot just a little.  she was also laying hunched, not streched out like she usually is in the mornings.  What it comes down is she refused to eat her favoriate morning foods and I am concerned.  When my husband came to see me at work he said there was not any change.  I called the vet and she has an appointment  tonight.  I am just concerned what the problem may be does any one have any ideas

I’m glad you are getting her to the vet. There really could be a number of things wrong which is why it’s best to get a diagnosis from the vet because they will know the right questions to ask you and be able to physically examine Oreo too.

          Healing vibes to Oreo.

Hi Dawn, has she pooped or eaten anything at all?

There are many possibilities which is why it is best to let the vet examine, diagnose and treat her.

When I got home from work last night she was still hunched over and not very active like she normally is, she had not eaten or drank all day.  All of this is not normal behavior for her.  She wouldn’t even eat her berries for breakfast.  I told the vet all of this and he checked her over, checked her teeth (good) , temp (good 103)  etc.  What he said was when a bunny does not eat that is not a good sign, he felt that since she did not drink or eat he gave her fluids (this fluid has a vitiam in it that helps bunnys I do not recall the vitiam)  that go under the skin behind her head (he said that it will look swollen for about 24 hours but will go down once the fluids are absorbed., he did the massage under her belly, gave a little dose of pain med because he felt she was  uncomfortable, and a shot to help her digestive system.  I was also sent home with a five day supply of the same meds and told that if she started to eat and drink last night the meds are not necessary.  Her  poops were really tiny last night and still tiny this morning.  He feels that she she could have a hair ball since she is shedding so bad, which in turn consipated her.  He chose to treat her for a possible digestive upset,  We also had to stay at the vet an hour, because he wanted to see how she would do after the shots etc.  Oreo was in her carrier with door open peeks out at us and takes a deep sigh and steches her legs all the out.  (this is a good sign right)

When we got home I made her salad and gave her some berries, she ate (not like she used to) drank some water. and this morning her poops were smal with a lot of hair mxed in.

Does this sound right and did the vet do what he supposed to.  I am supposed to call him today to let him know how she is

Is this at all possible Oreo drinks from a water bottle I change them all the time because the bottles send to get an odor in the spout.  Could this make her sick at all.

I am going to the pet store this weekend to get the water bowl that attaches to the cage

Pain meds and sub-q’s are good. What kind of shot did he give her? What did he send you home with exactly.

I don’t think it’s all the result of the water bottle but I do think a water bowl is a better idea – you just have to clean and change the water more often (not a big deal really) and it seems a more natural way to drink than a bottle in my opinion.

reglan for digestion  and rimadyl for pain.

Oreo has stopped eating hay for months, the only thing I can get her to eat is alfalfa and I was told she shouldn’t eat a lot of that because of calories.  I am going home  lunch time to check on her.

I would also try to hand feed her some critical care or a pellet mush mixture…she may not like you for it, but it would help get her going again too.

You should definitely try to encourage her to eat some grass hay as well. Did you try different types?

                          Continued vibes to Oreo.

Here are some pellet slurry or mush recipes:

                              http://www.carrotcafe.com/n/syringefeed.html

You should be able to get critical care from your vet – call them to see if they have it:

                              http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/products/type/detail

It’s important that you try to syringe feed her since she is not eating on her own.   Important to get the gut going again and important so there is no risk of liver disease.

Your vet sounds very attentive and you’re both doing your best to take good care of her. The poos with hair indicates that he was right about swallowing some fur due to shedding. Trying a hay that she likes will help keep that from happening so much, so even if she doesn’t like a new kind while she’s sick, let her sample them again after she’s feeling better to find one she will eat.

healing vibes for Oreo helped.  This morning she heard me and came running down the steps, followed me every where, ate all veggies and fruit during the night and her pellets (I didn’t give her a lot) ,  when Oreo wants something she will sit up on her butt and put her paw on my leg she wanted more pellets.  I gave her some.  After she ate she did what we call her nut run.  She runs like crazy all over the house, she does her binkies.  Doc said to still complete the meds but it is not necessary for the pain meds if she shows a big improvement.  He only wants buns on pain meds only if necessary.  And there were poops and the poops are getting bigger.  I gave her a mix of orchard grass, timothy and alfalfa, she ate that but not a lot.

When I left for work this morning she was sleeping on the couch (not a normal bunny she thinks she is a dog)
