        Hey guys,

I noticed that the past couple weeks my bunny has had orange pee in her litter box. Is this normal? I’ve been waiting to see if it changes and it hasn’t really seemed to. Does anyone else’ bunny have orange pee?

Orange coloured pee is very normal.

Copied and pasting this because it’s a great explanation.

Sometimes the urine can become red, pink, brown, or orange. This condition, often simply called “red urine,” can occur in healthy rabbits as well as those who are ill. Plant pigments: In healthy rabbits, the red color of urine can be due to porphyrins and other plant pigments that have not all been identified.

So, yeah. The colour of the pee can change depending on their diet. Bunnies can have blood in their urine, however, due to stones, infection or other medical condition. But orange is nothing to worry about.

Yes, it’s definitely an orange not a red!! Thank you. So pretty much, don’t worry unless it looks like blood?

Yeah. And if it’s really thick and chalky that could indicate bladder sludge.

Just wanted to add, if it gets so red you’re afraid it really is blood, you can test it by dripping hydrogen peroxide on the pee. If it foams there’s blood, if it doesn’t foam it’s just urine. Forum leader Jerseygirl has tested this herself and it works

Wow, that’s such a great idea! I have spent like the last hour reading books and vet articles about pee in rabbits, because my bun just peed orange for the first time. I tried the peroxide, and you totally saved me from either a lot of unnecessary worry or an equally unnecessary vet visit <3

That’s great, OTB! It really is an easy and cheap test that saves a lot of worry =)
