I have a weird issue that I could use some advice on.

So I have one bunny at home, she is a rescue that I found running around outside in my neighborhood, likely a dumped pet as I did not find any lost pet posters or get any info of lost rabbits from rescue shelters. I had planned initially to get her spayed but I am uncomfortable with the idea because I have no idea if she has already been spayed. She doesn’t display any major hormonal signs like nesting. She does chinning but minimally. I have noticed that on occasion she does have a skunky smell, not sure if that means anything. She also lacks a large dulop on her chest like hormonal females usually have. My vet has told me if she does not have these sighs she is likely already spayed but I am concerned with the outcome of bonding without being sure.

I am planning to rescue another rabbit from a pet store I work at. She has been there for around a year and has spent the entire time in a cage she outgrew and could not be adopted because she has medical conditions causing her to become blind in one eye and may be losing sight in the other. I will be getting her spayed before bringing her home.

All this said I am concerned what to do. Since I do not know if my current bun has been spayed im worried bonding won’t go well. I do not want to risk putting her under and doing the surgery in case she is already spayed so I am not sure what I should do. Anyone got some advice?

The vet should be able to see a scar if she’s been spayed already. Can they shave her belly and check? That would be the simplest thing to try first. 🙂

(Also I moved this post from the Forum Rules section to this one)
