Hi all! 3 months ago I got my first bunny ever, he is a Mini Rex. I had him neutered September 14th and everything went perfect with surgery. Today we got another bunny that was needing to be re homed due to his parents being in the military and having to deploy. This bunny is a lion head and is NOT neutered. How will I go about bonding the two bunnies? So far my neutered bunny has been very aggressive toward the new bunny. I know it is only day one, I’m just wondering if I am going to have to get the not neutered bunny neutered so they can get along eventually? Any advice helps. Thank you!

Don’t put your new bunny with your existing one yet. Your new one is already stressed from a move and putting him with your existing bun right away will stress him out more. They aren’t dogs and cats that you can just put together and things will be fine.

First BOTH need to be neutered. You need to let the new bun have time to settle in without being harassed by your current bunny. Every where is his territory and he’s going to be aggressive about it. After he’s been given time to settle in, neuter him, then spend 1-2 months prebonding them. After he has had one month to heal and one month to prebond, THEN you can begin short sessions in neutral territory.

Shadow (neutered) is a free-roam bunny while we are home. He is only in his cage while we sleep and while we are at work. How do I go about letting the new bunny get comfortable in the home? Do we keep Shadow in his cage and let the new bunny roam and then switch and put the new bunny in his cage and let Shadow out? I am just trying to figure out what is best for them to keep both bunnies happy and comfortable..

I’d try to limit his space if you want to bond them. You’re going to need neutral space for when you attempt to bond them anyways. So having them in separate cages will help immensely especially for prebonding. When you prebond you have to switch them between enclosures to get them used to each others scents. But right now, your new bunny is probably really scared from his initial interactions, so I’d keep him in a different room for now while he settles for a good month. Then you can set up 2 cages with 6 inches of space between them and give them separate roaming times and at the end of every night just swap them between the ones they were in the previous night.
