I bought the 25lb bag of Oxbow Young Adult pellets thinking that it’s cheaper that way (I’m a college student on a budget) and that it’ll last me a long time, but it just hit me that this is pellets for young rabbits. I heard that you need to switch to timithy based pellets around 6-7 months. What should I do? I can’t return the bag since I already opened it. I’m getting my Holland lop next week and it’ll be 8 weeks old. Can I feed my bunny 1/8 cup of the Oxbow Young Adult pellets even after it’s over 6 months? The Oxbow bag says that I can feed it as long as it’s under one year. Is this true? What should I do?

The pellets are for younger rabbits, I have a large bag as well and my rabbit was 10 weeks when i adopted him and I’m already a quarter way through. My vet said hay and pellets are good for growing rabbits and offer them plenty. I use pellets in cups, games and as treats.

I still have 3 months to go and they might be gone by then

It will be fine, even if you buy Timothy pellets after six months you can do a half/half mix of the Timothy and alfalfa pellets.

Under six months they can technically have unlimited pellets though you probably wouldn’t want to offer more than 1 cup per day as some gorge themselves and not eat any hay.

I agree, it should be fine, especially if you’re giving limited amounts by then. I recommend sealing portions of the pellets I airtight containers and putting them in the freezer. It will keep them fresh.

You could always sell some portions to people you know with young rabbits. Or donate some.

If he is 8 weeks old you’ll be on unlimited until 6 months old – my boy I got at 8weeks and he is now 5months and he has been through 4x 2kg bags , so by 6 months he would probably have done 8-10kgs … then you’d need some for weaning him over too – you’ll have half a bag left , or maybe if you are planning a second for bonding later you’ll have just the right amount
