I don’t want to overreact. Just please tell me this is normal.

Ollie was neutered yesterday and has seemed fine. I noticed that tonight his poops were coming out increasingly smaller.. They had a shine to them as if they were moist. I don’t know if that is considered diarrhea for a rabbit who normally has solid dry looking poops. Seeing as though he was neutered yesterday I am a little concerned.

Has this happenned to anyone else who had their bun neutered?

I remember the poops being smaller. Probably cause of them being more finicky afterwards and not feeling well.

Maybe someone else will come along who had the same experience and can say more.

As long as he is eating and drinking   pooping and urinating tho he should be ok  It wouldn’t hurt to keep an eye on things just in case.

I would not panic too much – often times after a surgery a bunnies poops will be smaller for a couple days while they recover from feeling ill or hurting from the surgery. Make sure that he is continuing to eat, even if it is smaller amounts than normal right now, and continuing to poop, but a smaller sized poop is fairly normal in my experience. A shine to poops isn’t diarrhea, diarrhea would be more runny poops, or poops that were not clearly a firm ball.

I am not sure if the vet told you this or not, but it is important to pick Ollie up and turn him over and check to see how he is healing from the neuter. It is very normal to see swelling and even some dried blood, but you want to check every day to make sure the swelling is gradually reducing and that the incisions do not get infected.

And you will feel guilty as hell for flipping him over but YES, you must do it. No ooze, no pus, no funny smell – make sure nothing looks swollen or like it might be hot to the touch.

I think as long as he is pooping – even if they are smaller, is a very good sign.

Yup should check the incision at least daily sometimes twice daily in the beginning. As long as he IS pooping and eating he should pull through well!

I just got my little girl spayed, and I also posted the same concern in a thread of my own. Her poops are smaller, and it seems as though there are even MORE each day to make up for it!

If shes eating and drinking, I guess we have nothing to worry about!

For both my Jessica and Leo, they had smaller poops for about 1-2 days after their surgery.  I was a little freaked as well, but the vet told me that this is kinda normal.  Just monitor the eating/drinking and you s/b good.

I think Ollie is well, he’s been chasing her around the kitchen (I went hunting for posts to ensure Ollie’s well!)
