Need some serious BB vibes right now. I’m a very worried Bunny Mommy. ![]()
Yesterday, at breakfast, Olivia didn’t want to eat. She was showing gas symptoms but I wasn’t very worried because she does that once in a while, I give her a dose of simethicone and she perks right back up. She also had lots of poos during the night so I figured she was just a bit gasy. After 3 hourly doses of simethicone, lots of tummy rubs and a dose of metacam (I had some left from Bindi’s last tummy upset), she just kept getting worse. Early afternoon, I called the vet and thankfully my rabbit vet was in so she said to bring her right in.
She took an x-ray and gave her more pain meds. The X-ray revealed no blockage, a small amount of gas but a very distended tummy. Her tummy was huge on the X-ray. She said for unknown reasons, her tummy just hasn’t been moving along the way it should (which surprised me because of the normal amount of poos) and they would have to keep her on IV fluids, motility drugs and continue monitoring her stomach. She said it could take up to 48 hours and it’s good that I brought her in right away but it’s like a horse with colic, sometimes you can never tell the outcome (we’re both horse people so we know the dangers of that). I was so upset. I gave her lots of kisses before I left. One of my good friend is the vet tech so I know she is in good hands. I was not expecting her to have to stay. I cried all the way home.
Around 6:00 pm the vet called me at the end of her shift because she knew how worried I was. The good news is that Olivia passed two giant poops but they were hard and looked more like dog kibble than normal bunny poos. And she ate a bit of greens. That made me feel a lot better. Olivia is a tough cookie and I’m trying to remain positive. I’m really hoping I will get a call that she can come home today. If she has to stay again tonight, I will go visit her this afternoon. Maybe seeing Momma will cheer her up.
It was really hard because I’ve never had a bunny away for the night before. Whenever I walk in the bunny room I expect her to run out for treat begging.
The past week I did find it strange that Olivia hasn’t been as hyper as usual. Mostly, just sitting around during out-time.
Get Well Vibes for Olivia please!
It’s so very upsetting that these things can happen even with the super careful diet and wonderful care and attention my buns get. I was just at the vet on Friday with Bindi for crying out loud. Hoping the vet goes easy on the bill too since my hubby is on winter lay-off right now.
Vibes to Miss Olivia. Did she take a look at her teeth? Seems like teeth are culprits of so many problems.
Vibes for Olivia and Hugs to you! Hope she comes home quickly.
I’m sorry to hear about Olivia. Poor little girl. Hopefully she’ll get to come home today. (((Healing vibes))) for her.
(((Hugs and vibes))) for you both. You got her in right away, so I’m sure she will be fine. Especially since she’s eating some. Maybe she was just constipated? lol Sorry, bad joke.
Oh no
poor Olivia! ((((VIBES)))) I hope she gets well and can come home soon.
{{{Olivia!}}} (((LPT))) Keep us updated please.

Sending good vibes to sweet Olivia!
Lots and lots and lots of healing vibes sent her way!
Thanks everyone. I’m going to pick her up at 6:00 pm tonight. The vet wants to talk to me. I assume she will be on a very strict diet for the next little while, but hopefully there’s nothing serious to discuss.
I talked to the vet tech on the phone and she said “She’s acting more like Olivia. Yesterday, she was so easy to X-Ray, not the case today and she boxed at one of the girl’s when they went to changer her litter pan.” That’s my Olivia.
I will update when she’s home. I can’t wait to see my baby.
I’m glad that Olivia is improving and can come home today. I hope that she is completely well soon.

Glad to hear she’s feisty. I think we should blame it on the full moon. God knows I blow up like a balloon when it hits, and that way, she’ll deflate in less than 2 days.
Seriously, she sounded constipated badly, so you know the worst has been passed. Now the trick is to figure out what she had that formed such large, hard poos.

I’m so sorry I missed this until now. (((((((((((Big hugs for LPT and Olivia)))))))))
Good to hear they’re releasing her to you. My guess is there will be extra fluids and more greens on her dietary list. Healing vibes coming your way and small vet bill vibes as well! (((((((Vibes))))))
SO glad she’s going home with you tonight, continued vibes! I love to hear a report of them being feisty.. it means they’re feeling better! ![]()
I’m not sure how I missed this but I am so happy to hear that she is doing better!!! Good job, bunny mom, for catching it! ((((HUGS to you all!)))))
Oh poor Olivia. Lots of vibes!!!
I hope she gets better! I send bunny hugs her way ![]()
{{{Vibes}}}} So glad she’s coming home tonight!!
Well, the Princess is home and acting like she was never sick at all. She ate a big bowl of greens last night and I went to let her out later in the evening, figuring she wouldn’t feel like coming out for play time, but when I opened her door she zoomed out of there faster than I’ve ever seen. Obviously, not impressed at being cooped up at the vets. You should have seen all the chinning that took place. The living room smelled like the boys. She put a stop to that. ![]()
She’s on a very strict diet for the next little while. No pellets or sweets like banana or dried fruit. Disapproving bunny ahead! I’m just so glad she’s okay.
My vet said “It’s just a great thing that you brought her in so early. That’s why it’s horrible to keep a bunny in a hutch or the garage, because the owner doesn’t see those gastro signs and then they get home from work and the bunny is passed away.”
The bill also wasn’t as bad as I expected. Everyone at the vet commented to me about how gorgeous she is. Most of the staff have never met Olivia since she’s usually so healthy.
Thanks again for all the vibes. ![]()
Glad she’s doing good ![]()
Awww you have to power through that stink eye you’ll get for skipping treats and just know you are doing the right thing
Sounds like your vet office knows you well-that’s great to have a nice team ![]()
Awww yeaaaaahhh!! Glad that she is back to normal!!!
Yayyy!!! ![]()
I like the sound of your vet, too.
Yay, so glad Ms. Olivia is doing better :~)
So glad to hear she is doing better!
Yeah, Olivia! You show those boys who’s boss!
I am actually surprised how quickly my bunnies forget about treats as long as crinkles never get heard again and I ‘m spending more time with them (even if it’s to medicate.)
Continued healing and healthy bunny vibes to the Diva Princess. (((((((Hugs))))))))) Funny how much she and Pip have in common too. ![]()
big Whew!! So glad shes doing better!
Crazy Olivia zooms this morning.
Last night, I was kind of worried because she just sat around mostly during run time but she’s totally crazy this morning. I love seeing a hyper, happy bun!
