Well, Olive is up for her spay tomorrow.  It will be done by an experienced, rabbit-savvy vet, but all the same, any good thoughts you have, please send our way!

        Best,

        Jamie

I hope that Olive recovers quickly from her surgery. When I had my rabbit spayed, she did so well that she started eating veggies afterwards while still at the vet. She was quiet for a couple of days, and the Metacam probably made her a bit sleepier than usual, but she bounced back quickly.

             (((good luck & healing vibes)))

Chessie was comforted by my voice during healing time, so whispering ‘sweet nothings’ may be soothing for Olive
I kept the room dimly lit, but she snoozed the first hour she came home.  Then she scooted over to her litterbox to tinkle … and then just hung out there for the rest of the night.  Every chance I got, I was cleaning/disinfecting her area (with vinegar & hot water).
& I would drizzle her pain meds on carrots & hand feed them to her …

Chessie was spayed last year – here’s the “day after” video:

LOL @ Chessie’s mom: were you trying to comfort her or “romance her”?! ;o)

But seriously, Olive will do fantastic! Healing vibes on the way!

Thanks everybody! The vet is taking her home for the night (or she’s staying overnight at the hospital, one of the two) as routine procedure. I remember with my Flipflop very vaguely (because it was years ago) that she didn’t have any problems and bounced back straight away, so I am hoping for the same thing with Olive.

I got a call from the vet to say Olive’s surgery went well and, although she still wasn’t eating at the time, she’d be going home with the vet for monitoring (this is routine in their practice) and I will have her back tomorrow morning.  Funny how much you bond with the little stinkers–I miss her already!

That’s interesting that the vet takes her home. I like that. You will have her back if you don’t already by now. Hope she is quick to recover.

RabbitPam:  Yes, I want to say with my first house rabbit Flip flop, she stayed overnight, but it was so long ago, I don’t remember properly.  Olive went home with the vet and is probably the better for it.  She is eating up a storm, using her litterbox… only thing I haven’t seen her do is drink water (though she’s clearly hydrated because I saw damp litter in the litterbox).  Her pain must be well controlled on the Metacam.  They gave me a five day supply.  I hope she continues to have an uneventful recovery!
