Olive is home now.  She’s hiding in her cardboard box and doesn’t seem interested in food or water.  I have a supply of Metacam for her and a lower litterbox (though it’s quite small) for her to use.  She seems in good spirits, all things considered!  I am going to continue to monitor her for signs of wanting to eat and drink.  So glad to have her back!

Glad she got through her surgery OK. My girl ate her salads first, then nibbled at hay – I had to hand feed her for a few days until she was feeling well enough to eat on her own, so if you hold some food up to her so she doesn’t have to move she might be more interested in it.

I gave her a piece of apple to get her going, and now she’s nibbling on a little hay and pellets (and pooped!) but I haven’t seen her drink water yet.  I’m sure she will.  She’s acting pretty normal for having invasive surgery yesterday; I’m sure the Metacam helps with the pain.  I’m going to get more greens this afternoon so she’ll have a bit of water intake that way if she doesn’t drink much today.

My rabbits rarely drink water at all. It sounds like she’s coming around. I’ve found that it usually takes 3 to 4 days for them to recover fully from a spay. They are a bit reclusive those first couple of days and just want to be left alone.

Glad she’s home and doing well. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the water intake, she’ll drink when she’s thirsty. Do you have a bowl of water for her? It’s hard to drink out of a bottle after a spay. Aren’t you just happy it’s over? phew

Well, I just checked her litterbox, and she did pee, so I’m assuming she’s well hydrated.  Yay!

And yes, TriBun, I’m quite happy her spay is over.  Feels like a major accomplishment (although I of course did none of the work except whip out the credit card to pay for it).

Congrats on getting it over with. She sounds perfectly normal, and that’s good about the peeing and the eating so far. I think she’s doing fine. To check her incision site, hold a treat just above her nose so she stands up and take a look, or put a hand mirror at her feet when you do it so you can look at the site in the mirror. Check for swelling or redness. If she’s eating, it’s probably clean.  (Not tonight, just in the next few days.)

She’s also pooping, though the poo’s look a little funny shaped–I read somewhere to expect that for the first few days, though.  Thanks for the tips on checking the incision site.  She doesn’t like to be fussed with (picked up, etc) so that will keep her from injuring herself while I take a peek.  I’m rather amused by her behavior, though–she’s a bit of a hay snob, and favors her pellets–right now, it’s the other way around.  Barely touched the pellets, but eating haylike it’s going out of style…

Thanks everybody!  Olive seems to be doing great on the Metacam and back to her regular self, more or less.  I do wish I’d catch her drinking some, but she seems alert and active, so I’m not really worried there.

Yeah. She’s seems to be recovering well. If she gets greens as part of her diet, alot of hydration can come from that.
